Overcome Culture Challenges in Change

Balancing Control Behaviors are influenced more by beliefs, norms, and values than by formal rules.

Change management involves both technical and social dimensions, presenting critical challenges such as sense making, decision making, meaning making, and learning.

Organizational culture, viewed as an organization’s psychological assets, significantly influences behaviors and can either facilitate or inhibit organizational transformation.

Navigating Change: Understanding the environment recognizing vague and contradictory signals is crucial for effective change management. The pace, ambiguity, and complexity of a crisis can overwhelm normal assessment modes.

Cultural Agility: Organizations need to be agile to adapt to rapid technological changes. Recognizing and understanding the basic assumptions that guide behavior is essential.

Strong vs. Weak Cultures: Strong cultures can ensure consistent action during uncertainty but may hinder transformation when flexibility is needed. Conversely, weak cultures lack clear guidance.

Overcoming Challenges

-Information Processing: Developing a capacity for thorough and fast-paced information processing under stressful conditions is essential. Some individuals, like data scientists and journalists, are known for this ability.

-Cultural Change: Organizational change may require cultural change. Addressing underlying, unquestioned assumptions is important because these shape organizational behavior.

Culture represents the 'ethos' of the organization, as it has evolved since its inception. Balancing Control Behaviors are influenced more by beliefs, norms, and values than by formal rules. An organization’s "personality" -culture can be more important to performance and motivation than rewards and sanctions. Being fully aware of the culture and its underlying values enables the strategy to be input to, validated and executed across the organization.
