Seven Delights to Optimize Flying

In order to innovate, we need to understand how the industry will change, who the emerging potential travelers will be and what the traveler pain points today are.
Aviation industry is one of the most challenging industries in the world, on the one hand, airlines are the world-wide economic engine, to orchestrate business activities via transportation, job creation, energy consumerization, commercial communication, and vocation/travel inspiration., etc. on the other hand, the industry’s just been through the “lost decade”, nature/human disaster, weather change, economic recession, flying fuels, low morality, all the factors drag industry down to brink of survival crisis, the only secret source to reinvent industry is innovation via the fresh mind & eyes, enchanting service & solution and the latest technology.

In order to innovate, we need to understand how the industry will change, who the emerging potential travelers will be and what the traveler pain points today are. Let’s work together to brainstorm the future of Airline:
  1.  Self-Service
In modern airport, the passengers enjoy more self-services such as self baggage drop, mobile-coupon/boarding pass, ancillary sales offer, passenger notification, location tracking, etc. Airport also becomes the facilitator with optimized resources: it will promote the sales promotion via multiple channels such as social network platform, collaborative airport ecosystem to connect with third party partners.

    2.  Checking Point
We need a process that responds to today’s threat based on passenger information and new technology. That means moving from a system that looks for bad objects to one that can find bad people." The checkpoint of the future will have three lanes—known traveler, normal and enhanced security. Which lane the passenger uses is determined by a biometric identifier in the passport or other travel document that triggers the results of a risk assessment conducted by the government before the passenger arrives at the airport.

  1. Baggage
The baggage is no longer become the travel hassle, your baggage status is only a click away, RFID and the other latest technology optimize the baggage handling scenario, you could always track your baggage at real time via smart phone or any other web platform at any time of your journey

  1. Airplane

    1. Paperless Cabin: Statistically, the Airlines could save about $440,000 a year for every 11.5 kilograms, or 25 pounds, of paper weight eliminated from an aircraft, the latest aviation-tailored document compression technology that transforms magazine and newspaper content into a digital format for integration into an airplane’s in-flight entertainment system is now offering the possibility that airline cabins could become paperless. The paperless solution at the cabin is win-win situation for both customers (via more integrated entertainment system) and airlines (energy efficiency)

    1. Service & Entertainment: the attitude is the brand, the airplane attendants’ delightful attitude and service is one of the most important elements to build up the reputable airline legacy, to enchant customer o the sky. The digital technology also provides the unprecedented opportunities for airline to entertain and promote the better deals to the customer all the way through sky.

  1. Energy Efficiency
Carbon efficiency, measured in emissions per passenger per mile. Looking at emissions per passenger per mile normalizes for size, allowing us to compare the characteristics of disparate routes, planes, airlines, and corporate travel programs, air travel energy efficiency benefit both passengers and airlines economically with low carbon footprint and energy effectiveness, especially with five key drivers:
1) carbon measurement and management
2) aircraft fuel economy
3) passenger load factor
4) seat density
5) freight share and distance

From business intelligence perspectives, it provides the significant opportunities for airlines to transform into not only greener, but also more energy-efficiency and operation effectiveness, Being green is both necessary and imperative, both the brand, and the new gold.

  1. BioFuel
Alternative energy such as biofuel is strategic imperative for aviation industry to adopt, it’s at tipping point for airlines to not completely depend on petroleum oil since 30+% of cost is from hiking fuel cost in 2011, it’s one of the key obstacles to keep the airline vulnerable, and the only solution is to take advantage of alternative energy, and build up the long term strategy.

The airlines worldwide take serious about biofuel-powered commercial flight, It's the starting point of environmentally friendly flying, It's also clear signal that the aviation industry is taking steps to mitigate against climate change

  1. Cloud Computing
Cloud not only let the airplanes flow elegantly in the sky, now, with the chance to spark further innovation & insiration: Cloud computing technology such as SAAS (Software as a Service), PAAS (Platform as a Service), IAAS (Infrastructure as a Service), BpAAS (business Process as a Service), AAAS (Analytics as a Service)., etc. Cloud transforms the technology investment cost from CapEx to OpEx, it’s absolutely at the advantage point for financial-struggling industry to re-invent the business with the optimized IT solutions and application modernization.

May future of airline keep carrying on human’s dream, progress and legacy, delight the travel journey, and lift up customers’ flying spirit. With globalization and digitization, may we enter the gold-rush era for travel industry in the upcoming decade.

Air travel is now available to many and is often used for both business travel and travel. We can say that almost everything is perfect, although some processes may and should be optimized. I often fly, and also often drive a car, which I usually book in a car rental service right at the airport.
