Ten Insight of Enterprise Framework

Framework as an ontology, or formal vocabulary is used to describe the relationships of strategy, systems, processes, functions, and roles within an organization.

An enterprise architecture framework is organization of the structure and views associated with an enterprise architecture. More provocative thought & insight on what are the things that make a framework and what a framework is for. (Wikipedia)

  1. In EA context, the framework provides guidelines, checklist, standard, processes, do & don't do as well as tools and building blocks (in some cases) to develop/define enterprise architecture.

  1. The framework is structure or views to search underlying business laws. The framework is defined as a set of principles/model that underpins the establishment, governance of a particular activity. The framework describes a best practice of how things should be done from the process and documentation side, it’s not the gospel of business and it needs to continue to update.
  1. Framework - can mean the structural skeleton which defines building blocks and how these blocks relate to each other at the conceptual level; EA framework can also imply at the detailed level - loosely coupled components in a predefined container which ties them together; it can also imply a structured process or methodology, roles & rules, standards, definitions both from a business and technical perspective.
  1. Framework, noun, a coherent set of ideas, principles, agreements, and practices which provides the basis or outline for something intended to be more fully developed at a later stage; the framework provides a basic building block (the base) for developing new application with  kind of reusable code. It is a configurable, reusable semi built application with features designed for specific purposes.
  1. An architectural framework is a collection of knowledge composed of up to three different groups of knowledge:
    1) (required) A Common Conceptual Model frames the concepts within a specific set of business problems or ‘domain.
          2) (optional) A structured Process Model or Methodology that informs and guides the people
involved. This includes roles, processes, and the necessary rules for following them

          3) (optional) A set of Constituent Reference Models that provides a detailed taxonomy for
organizing the contents of a particularly complex area

  1. The EA framework is a structure, like a chest of drawers. You can open drawers, put things in and take things out. In some drawers, you will find some wonderful stuff, in others some old crap. Some are empty and some of the content should be replaced. But you will soon know which drawers contain the artifacts valuable to you, which drawers to keep shut and how rewarding it is to put new or improved things back into the drawers for future reuse.

  1. Framework as an ontology, or formal vocabulary is used to describe the relationships of strategy, systems, processes, functions, and roles within an organization. A framework provides a means of classifying various components and their relationships, so they can be discussed and understood by the members of that organization.
  1. To make the framework more than just "PowerPoint Deep" it contains:
    • A fully developed database schema to hold all the instances of all the objects
    • A fully developed set of relationships that enable all the objects to be related to one another.
    • A definition and access language for creation, updating, and reporting all the object instances representable from the framework.
    • A fully developed methodology that ensures that the framework, when used by multiple persons on the same or different teams produce a set of object instances that are reliable, repeatable, and fully distinguishable.
  1. The framework is a playground within you structure, build and perform your work (culture, practices, knowledge, know-how) which
    - makes the life of developers easy like
-- by providing generic components and utilities
-- by defining abstract components and hence define the way to program - reduce the scope of errors due to definition from scratch again and again
    --by abstracting the concerns
    -Reduce development time
    -Reduce bugs in the system
    -Make code easy to understand
    -Hide complexities
    -help in making system testable
-make application extensible being developed on a structured foundation

  1. (Architecture) Framework means a guideline containing approach (or model), methodology (process) and the scope of the (architects) activities. The framework can help leverage business paradox-pairs:
    • Transaction vs. transformation
    • Opportunity vs. risk
    • Growth vs.  governance
    • Centralized vs. decentralized
    • Analytics vs. synthesis
