Innovation

Innovation is an exceptional, exclusive, and realistic idea that separates you from others without a second thought.

The effects of an increasingly digitized world are now reaching into every corner of businesses and every aspect of organizations. It brings greater awareness of intricacies and the systemic value of organizational systems, business capabilities, people dynamics, resource alignment, or technological touches.

With the right innovation appetite, attitude, and aptitude, the organization is on the right track of connecting the right dots, developing innovation as a business-wide unique competency.

Innovation & story-arcs: Innovation is about making differences. Either designing a new business model or generating innovative products or services, business leaders need to envision clearly, ponder what is the "story-arc" for your organization? What type of narrative conflict must you confront? Where are you? Where are you going? How do you get there? What is your current adventure? Who are you, in the story? There is the interplay between broad-ranging story-arcs and individually gripping stories. Modern-day storytellers have the opportunity to advance agendas, concepts, and ideas.

Nothing truly great can happen without innovation. There are emotions involved in compelling story-telling. If the positive and hopeful stories are not told, the negative and dangerous ones will be. ``We are inspired by great people or things such as role models, compelling stories. Inspirational stories create synergy in strengthening positive thinking and driving innovation. Perhaps these stories pull at our emotional strings because, deep down. storytelling is a powerful tool, and people will use it to shape the way we think as teams of people. When those mental models are released through narrative, the outpouring, the feedback can shape a common cloth, something we can all wrap ourselves around, to spur creativity and catalyze innovation.

Innovation & rhythm: Every digital organization perhaps has a different rhythm and needs to monitor its own pulse periodically. In the knowledge economy, the "rhythm" of Knowledge Management needs to be synchronized with the rhythm of work to spur creative ideas. Imagine what can be accomplished by increasing knowledge and applying it to what one has imagined. As imagination lets us dream of where we could go, knowledge helps us to understand how and what forces we are dealing with in our journey.

To build an innovative workforce and accelerate business speed, digital organizations today need to redefine themselves in which talent can develop and learn more rapidly than anywhere else. Forward-looking organizations create a rhythm of innovation that establishes clarity around the top priorities of the company, and then review those priorities on a regular basis. With the exponential growth of information and abundant knowledge, high-performance companies are capable of processing and mobilizing collective information, knowledge, ideas, experiences, capacities to develop business competency, use knowledge to create more ideas, fresh perspectives, challenge common beliefs or conventional wisdom.

Innovation & paranoid:
Innovation, especially breakthrough innovation implies high opportunities and high risks. Innovation is complex nowadays, but it is a process that can be managed. Be paranoid to think ahead, but don't over-panic. Make a dynamic planning to evolve the emergent properties and leverage the nonlinear logic for managing innovation as a dynamic process and a holistic system. The paranoid leaders and professionals keep their eyes on the horizon, look for and assess new technologies, and determine viabilities with the organization’s strategic direction, pay more attention to the potential risks and digital disruptions, establish clear digital principles and GRC standards for different aspects of the organization.

The success rate of innovation is low. The right attitude to innovate should be fearless to change and experiment, but be paranoid to avoid unnecessary mistakes or take a calculated risk. The paranoid leaders are not weak, they are just mindful, inquisitive, and innovative. They don’t follow the old rules to innovate, they don’t just get stuck into the “best practices.” They are paranoid about overwhelming information, changes, they are also paranoid about fierce competitions. They are inquisitive and paranoid enough to think a lot, ask a lot, but can also make effective decisions without procrastination, to improve innovation management effectiveness.

Innovation is an exceptional, exclusive, and realistic idea that separates you from others without a second thought. Innovation is about the future, without it, you lose sight of tomorrow. Effective innovation requires a suitable process as part of the wider holistic 'system' for innovation, encompassing different key aspects such as culture, leadership, and strategy, to improve overall innovation management maturity.
