Collaboration, teamwork, and unity bring complementary strength and amplify collective potential.

Nowadays, we live in a hyperconnected global society, silos cause slowness and enlarge gaps. It’s a strategic imperative to clarify collaborative logic, harness cross-boundary and real-time communication & collaboration, build and sustain a dynamic workforce, and accelerate collective performance with synchronized speed.

Complementary logic of collaboration: In face of unprecedented complexity and uncertainty, people across industries are encouraged to break down silos, be both creative and critical in enforcing cross boundary communication & collaboration, seek out help, brainstorm fresh ideas, and co-solve existing or emerging problems. Collaborating with entirely like-minded people probably won't bridge cognitive gaps to yield innovative results. Complementary collaboration is not a sign of weakness but rather an open door to illustrate the value of developing the answer with a colleague or sharing the power of diverse perspectives to shape a new idea or solution.

Cognitively, to uncover the logic behind complexity, people need to leverage multidimensional thought processes to get multifaceted aspects of issues that need to be dealt with. The more diversified the team is, the more strategic and innovative the collaboration can turn out to be for co-solving problems effectively. The team with a complementary mindset and skill set can sustain diversified viewpoints into holistic perspectives, enhance information-based communication synchronization and collaboration-driven relationship harmony.

Balanced logic: Don't expect your collaboration to be the same, find your own balance and you will find your innovation. There are balanced forces of collaboration and competition that need to work together to stimulate excitement, and produce positive results. Without constructive competition for generating more ideas, collaboration might turn out to be tedious. But unhealthy competition would decrease productivity and professionalism.

Innovation is usually a divergence-convergence continuum. Competition enforces divergence, collaboration enhances convergence. If you have two or more ideas, you have competition to pick the best one for achieving high value. Without good competition, there would be no premium choices, intellectual stimulation. Without collaboration, complex ideas cannot be implemented smoothly.

Integral logic:
If communication is more art than science; then collaboration is more science than art. There is an integral logic behind cross-boundary collaboration. Enforcing mutual respects between organizational design and business process management can harness collaboration. Many organizations adopt the hybrid organizational structure that mix the two structures - hierarchy and relationship structure wrap around each other to ensure high responsiveness and accountability, blend structured and unstructured processes to enforce business alignment, harness collaboration, improve agility.

High mature digital organizations integrate organizational design into the process design and organizational re-engineering. Insightful leaders with holistic thinking are in demand to gain the big picture understanding of complex problems in the global business ecosystem, knowing how to collaborate with stakeholders of all stripes, being able to facilitate and orchestrate the multitude of differences, values, cultures, focusing on convincing, persuasion, and collaboration at the global scope to overcome common challenges.

There are many reasons to collaborate and there are numerous ways to collaborate for amplifying collective human impact. If collaboration leads to better outcomes than acting alone, people collaborate. Where common benefits are the basis for individual benefits, people collaborate. Collaboration, teamwork, and unity bring complementary strength and amplify collective potential.
