Negative Psychology

These traits are studied to better understand how they contribute to negative outcomes in individuals and society and to develop strategies for mitigating their impact.

Psychology shapes people’s mindsets and attitudes. Negative psychology is not a formal branch of psychology, but certain traits are often studied in the context of understanding negative behaviors and mental health challenges. Some of these traits include:

Dark Triad: This cluster of three negative personality traits includes Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. These traits are characterized by emotional coldness, duplicity, and egoticism. They are often used to understand aversive behaviors in various contexts, such as the workplace, and broader cultural issues like prejudice.

Neuroticism: This is a broad personality trait that represents the degree to which a person experiences the world as distressing, threatening, and unsafe. Individuals high in neuroticism tend to be emotionally unstable, anxious, and prone to negative emotions such as anxiety, depression.

Shadow Mindset: From a young age, individuals learn to conform to societal norms and expectations, leading to the repression of certain traits that do not align with these norms. Past experiences, including trauma or criticism, can contribute to the formation of the shadow by causing individuals to hide or deny parts of themselves.
