A Connecting Mind

A connecting mind can spark creativity more effortlessly.

Human’s brain has been separated as left brain and right brain, and majority of people in the world are either more left brainer or right brainer or being called the “half-brainer,” However, in order to master the complexity emerging with digitalization, the connecting mind which can connect dots more freely and seamlessly is most wanted for spurring creativity or thinking holistically.

A connecting mind can flow across the boundary for problem-solving. A connecting mind that is free from the psychological inertia. The mind needs to be freed so that it’s connected to the rest of the universe and allows ideas to flow through. Every problem that we face has a similar or analogous problem in past, in some other industry or in a leading area. One just needs to find that existing solution and adapt it to the current problems.

A connecting mind can spark creativity more effortlessly. Perhaps an essential feature of the creative brain is its degree of connectivity--both inter-hemispheric and intra-hemispheric. Connectivity correlates or binds together functions of apparently structurally isolated domains on brain modules subserving different functions. It is felt that creative cognition is a self-rewarding process where divergent thinking would promote connectivity through the development of new synapses. "The creative brain--revisiting concepts."  --Chakravarty A. Med Hypotheses.

A connecting mind naturally thinks with the whole brain. Some neurological theories show that the left hemisphere doesn’t have many connections to other parts of the brain as compared to the right hemisphere. The right hemisphere is the source of creativity, and it also has very far-flung connections throughout the whole brain. And the innovative aha arises when original connections are made.

A connecting mind is open to see the commonality even at the seemly “polar opposite” viewpoint. Because a connecting mind can capture the insight, see through things from the different angles, it is the mind with the thinking process that holds onto its nature connectivity while being prepared to connect the dots even in the opposite direction should they make sense.

A connecting mind can also think more holistically. And the holistic thinking is more than the combination or synthesis of different thinking processes, such as analytic thinking, system thinking and critical thinking, the word “holistic” refers to something that transcends a combination of thinking way. A connecting mind can practice these diverse thinking processes and then, converge them into the new knowledge and insight.

And obviously a connecting mind is better at dots connection across the geographical or generational boundaries: On the navigation dimension, a connecting mind has more antennae focused on the trends and what’s going on in the world what'll it impact the next generation. And what group will have more diversity, the cogitative diversity with a different opinion, independent thinking, decentralization, and aggregation. A connecting mind with positive perspective can then, capture of culture quintessential and transcend them into the vision that may take businesses or society years of effort to catch on.

A connecting mind can be both abstract and detailed; open and flow; creative and critical, analytical and synthetic,  it is doing better than other types of  mind in making an objective observation, cross-boundary association, framing the right questions, and sparkling the fountain of creativity.
