The Monthly Insight of Information Management: Knowledge/Insight Dots Connection Sep. 2018

Digital is the age of creativity and innovation, and creativity is all about connecting the dots.

The aim of modern Information Management has often been described as getting the right information to the right person, in the right format and medium, at the right time, in order to make the right decisions. The value of information is qualitative, measurable, and defined uniquely by an organization.

 Knowledge/Insight Dots Connection

Creativity vs. Insight Creativity is an innate process to create novel ideas, it is a type of “out-of-box” thinking; insight is thinking into the box after thinking out of the box. Creativity is a result of living in your intuitive space. It is an action or a reaction to the world. Insight is the deep intuitive understanding of things, and it often breaks through the conventional wisdom. Insight is not only about trying to "think outside the box," but an intuitive expression and alternative path that takes you wherever it needs to go, without boundaries, with the goal to think beyond the surface and break through conventional wisdom.

Knowledge vs. Imagination Perhaps it is another chicken and the egg debate: Knowledge vs. Imagination, which one is more important? There is no imagination without knowledge, and there is no knowledge without imagination. Putting information in a human memory is not similar to data storage, as you have to sort through, transform it into the knowledge, and abstract the insight or recreate the new knowledge at the advanced level.

Information Management vs. Knowledge Management Information comes from Machine Power, and Knowledge comes through Brain Power. Information Management is to connect people with the right information at the right time & location, to ensure that accurate information is accessible and shared within relevant business units. This information is open to interpretation in accordance with the level of knowledge one has. Knowledge Management safeguards full understanding of business.

Knowledge vs. Wisdom Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” - Albert Einstein Knowledge is just like any useful, resourceful information available with you in your brain instead of in the books, pen, drive or some other form….acquired formally, informally, generally etc. Wisdom is the transformation of YOU into “A REAL YOURSELF” for which your knowledge may help you sometimes facilitates

Digital Flow: The Future of Knowledge Management: Digital means flow, data flow, information flow and knowledge flow; there is a shift from more traditional knowledge management approaches to techniques that involve enhancing the "flow" of knowledge within an organization to improve access and use. As the accepted model of knowledge management is too hierarchical, too centralized for the fast-moving, increasingly social or collaborative digital enterprise of today, so it makes sense that something like flow management is seen as a more fitting.

The “Future of CIO” Blog has reached 2.5 million page views with about #5000th blog posting in 59+ different categories of leadership, management, strategy, digitalization, change/talent, etc. The content richness is not for its own sake, but to convey the vision and share the wisdom. Blogging is not about writing, but about thinking and innovating the new ideas; it’s not just about WHAT to say, but about WHY to say, and HOW to say it. It reflects the color and shade of your thought patterns, and it indicates the peaks and curves of your thinking waves. Unlike pure entertainment, quality and professional content takes time for digesting, contemplation and engaging, and therefore, it takes time to attract the "hungry minds" and the "deep souls." It’s the journey to amplify diverse voices and deepen digital footprints, and it's the way to harness your innovative spirit.
