Educational psychology aims to optimize learning through both experimental and applied approaches, distinguishing it from school psychology, which primarily addresses problems within elementary and secondary school systems.

The main theories in educational psychology: This field is both experimental and applied, aiming to optimize learning outcomes. 

Cognitivism: This theory emphasizes the role of mental processes in understanding how people learn. It involves studying how information is received, processed, and stored. Jean Piaget and Jerome Bruner are notable contributors.

Behaviorism: This theory focuses on observable behaviors and the ways they can be conditioned through reinforcement and punishment. Key figures include B.F. Skinner and John Watson.

Constructivism: This theory posits that learners construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world through experiences and reflecting on those experiences. Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget are influential figures in this theory.

Social Learning Theory: Proposed by Albert Bandura, this theory emphasizes the importance of observing and modeling the behaviors, attitudes, and emotional reactions of others.

Humanism: This approach focuses on the whole person and the uniqueness of each individual. It emphasizes personal growth and self-actualization. Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow are key figures.
