How important do you think professionalism is in senior Leadership and why?

The logic is simple, the unprofessionalism leads to bad judgment, then drives the poor decisions.

Digital is both deepening through the leadership profundity and raising up the leadership quality bar, now leadership substance is more quintessential than leadership style; leadership authenticity is more significant than leadership authority; digital leadership becomes more transparent and omnipresent,  so how important do you think professionalism is in senior leadership and why?

Consistency is the key to success in business and in life. Credibility and integrity ... or better said, "consistency" is essential in earning and holding the trust of one's team. Troubles and problems happen and it is one of the primary responsibilities of a leader to deal with them - in a professional manner. Leaders that continually act out during pressure or difficult situations lose the respect and confidence of their team. Clarity of direction and trust is lost when your leader does not have the discipline to remain in control. You can be aggressive and passionate while still keeping your credibility and integrity.

A truly great leader acts professionally in all aspects of their role and beyond. It creates a strong chain with no weak links. The truth goes a long way and for most, you don't get respect, titles mean nothing, you must earn it and that takes the honor to stand up there and ran the heat with no repercussions. Leader’s professionalism starts with being professional with the positive and forward-thinking mindset, are you both open-minded and disciplined; are you both creative and critical; are you both confident and humble; are you both insightful and foresightful; are you both local and global; are you both passionate and mature?

Be respectful: Part of that respect is that the personnel expect 'C' level to not just act but to be professional, wise and mature. Focusing on the 'health' or well-being of the entire team results in a greater value in both employee satisfaction and financially for your company. Unruly leaders operate fear-based and that eventually result in a lack of respect for the company, greater employee turnover, and additional costs. If the staff doesn’t respect a leader, they are not as productive as those who do respect their leaders; it's about motivation.

Leadership is a journey, being professional is just a fundamental factor to be a respectful leader, and leadership professionalism shall make a direct influence on corporate/societal culture, talent management, and business strategy, it is the foundation of the authentic and transparent digital leadership.
