AAMSF

Usually, large urban cities have considerably rich anthropological roots and influential cultural settings to influence state culture, national culture, and even global culture.

The Asian Art Museum San Francisco (AAMSF) is one of the largest museums in the United States dedicated to Asian art and culture. It is a four-floor modern aesthetic architecture building standing near the city hall and the civic plaza of San Francisco.

The building's design incorporates elements like a central atrium, skylights, stone and glass mixture to create an open, light-filled environment.

The museum's collection covers a diverse range of art, including watercolor paintings, sculptures, ceramics, metalwork, textiles, etc. It has particularly strong holdings in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, and Southeast Asian art. Some of the museum's most prized works include ancient Chinese bronzes, Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, and Buddhist sculptures.

The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco has a notable collection of sculptures depicting the bodhisattva Guan YiGuan Yin of the Southern Seas is one of the museum's most famous and iconic works. It is a large, gilt-bronze sculpture of Guan Yin, the bodhisattva of compassion, seated in a serene and contemplative pose. The sculpture is considered a masterpiece of Buddhist art. The other sculpture "Seated Guan Yin," depicts Guan Yin seated in a relaxed, almost casual pose. The sculpture exemplifies the grace and humanity often associated with Guan Yin in Chinese Buddhist art.

After visiting the exhibitions on the second and third floors, I sat in the outside garden located on the second floor, enjoying the sunshine and urban atmosphere at noon time. I also walked across the farmers' market and hung around in the civic plaza.  It’s great for me to visit museums and nearby areas on the weekend to relax, learn, observe, and ponder around, enjoy the urban surroundings.
