A Visionary’s Mindset

Leaders without vision are like a star without light.

Generally speaking, vision is to zoom in the future as if it were closer. A person considered to be a visionary is someone who has insight into what others cannot see. They have the imagination to anticipate what others might need or want in the future and provide it today.

Vision is about having a positive outlook on the future that is not predicated on the past or present: It is through identifying the "destination" for all, charting the route for all from their own respective positions toward the destination, and then guiding along the way when some for a time deviate or supporting the ones who are lagging behind. A great vision is one which relates itself to a purpose greater than itself which contributes to the common good. Vision is a motivation act one plans to see happen in life, businesses and the society we live in. It often takes turns positively or negatively, but it has been and always will be the genesis of uncountable success stories we all know. Vision is something you see, others don't, and a visionary mind is able to and not afraid to leverage contrarian views to shape a holistic picture. The most important thing is that you believe in your vision and many follow your vision. A vision re-conceptualizes the future, connects the previously unconnected dream. It fires the imagination and opens the mind to new concepts and ideas.

Vision is a foresight with a proactive understanding of cause and effect, not reactive sight: A vision is a future state of being. It is a clear choice among future scenarios to promote certain behavior. The "aha" vision is an "entrepreneurial" attribute; the ability to envision a solution to a perceived or not-yet-perceived need. A visionary mind has the ability to think the past, perceive what is now and foresee the future. Maybe it is about shaping an idea that comes with a commitment to push it through - personal dynamics and guts, determination and single-mindedness. The vision if understood in this perspective becomes an achievable reality and a comprehensible dream beyond words. A good vision statement either for personal development, business growth, or societal progress, should motivate us continually to "reach just beyond our grasp" -- in the pursuit of longer-term goals to be realized through achievement of nearer-term objectives, against which our performance can be measured and reported to those who care to know. A vision is never "achieved" in the sense of being "completed" (with nothing more to be done) -- not in any number of years or even lifetimes. A vision statement describes a journey rather than a destination. The steps along the way are described in goal and objective statements made "real" in terms of measurable performance indicators.

A business vision is a clear, comprehensive photograph of an organization at some point in the future: Where do we want to be in the future? What will be our state? A strong and compelling vision would be understandable and at the same time exciting for all people who are needed to make the vision true, from employees, customers to suppliers. The vision will be the root for moving forward, and therefore, it should be clear, concise, realistic and easy to digest for everybody. Business vision is to be considered as an achievable strategic plan for any corporate on the long as well as a medium-term basis. Business vision statements should not be a description of the current state or implied. Vision statements should be a vision of what or where the organization wants to be in 3-5 years with smart goals to achieve the vision, once reached the bar should be raised. Vision statements should be "shared visions" for the ability to obtain the vision requires buy-in from management and the workforce. It is a realistic filtration of the strategic intent which basically means corporate aspirations. It should be framed through quantitative assessment of internal resources & external opportunities and should focus on competitive advantages. It is: "A concise and inspirational statement implicitly relating an organization's purpose to its values, thus motivating its actions toward a future state it strives to achieve.”

Vision has emerged as one of the most significant digital leadership qualities because it is so critical to navigating through business dynamic with VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, and Ambiguity) digital attributes based on leaders’ clear vision, define the various alternates and develop the ones that appeal most. Vision is the defining characteristic of a leader that others would like to follow. The one defining the characteristic of a visionary is that people "see" the vision and can apply it to the problem at hand and lead toward the brighter future.
