Understanding (12)

The digital era upon us is about people. It’s important to understand the organization as a complex system and the people of the complex system. It is to understand how people factor affects the business system.

"Digital Master” is the series of guidebooks (28+ books) to perceive the multi-faceted impact digital is making to the businesses and society, help forward-thinking organizations navigate through the journey in a systematic way, and avoid “rogue digital.” It perceives the emergent trends of digital leadership, advises on how to run a digital organization to unleash its full potential and improve agility, maturity, and provide insight about Change Management. It also instructs the digital workforce on how to shape a game-changing digital mindset and build the right set of digital capabilities to compete for the future. Here is a set of “Understand” (12) quotes in Digital Master."

Framing the right problem is a half-way to solve it. The people with what being referred to as highly intelligent have a strong aptitude to understand the “complexity” of the given problem.

In order to get the “scope” of the problem, deepen the understanding of the issues by stepping back, or getting out of the box, in order to look at the problem from a different angle.

There are small issues and large problems, understand which of these root causes is being addressed. It’s an important step to identify, understand, and evaluate the opportunities in which important problems need to be solved, brainstorming helps problem identification and avoids “worrying about the wrong thing” symptom.

Problem-solving is both art and science. Understand the proposed solution and how it is expected to address the root cause we chose to address.

Understanding and articulating the real problem is important because ill-defined problems or misconceptions cause significant delay of effective problem-solving, waste time and investment, or even cause more serious problems.

The digital era upon us is about people. It’s important to understand the organization as a complex system and the people of the complex system. It is to understand how people factor affects the business system.

Design thinking and socio-technical systems concepts are important and should become the fundamental principles for businesses to understand the digital dynamics and improve organizational maturity.

By following systems principles, business executives are sensitive to emergent trends and keep balanced views, not via stillness, but through the state of the flow and information dynamic. They have high abilities to understand and handle changes from different angles, encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, and enable change continuum.

Look at the problem from a different angle or understand the issues via multi-disciplinary lenses, in order to get the “scope” of the problem, see a larger system with interactive pieces and “conflict” goals; provide the deep insight into the emergent properties, and gain an in-depth understanding of problems for solving them systematically.
