When you were born, you had certain raw talent, but you were not a finished artwork. One of the simplest ways to describe talent is that it's a natural gift that you have. You think, create, and self-actualize by architecting yourself continuously. It was once said, it's impossible for you to wear out your gifts because the more you use them, the stronger they become.

In fact, more often than not, you need to make a sound judgment about professional capability maturity as now we live in a knowledge economy with fierce competitions, exponential growth of information and rapid change. When you intend to build high mature professional capabilities, it’s important to discover your inner talent, as talent-based skills can be more easily sharpened into unique competency for reaching the ultimate career goals, make you more productive, informative, and innovative.

Cognitive capability: Humans as intelligent beings, we are what we think. Mindset is everything, representing our consciousness and awareness. Cognitive competency refers to a growth mindset, critical thinking logic, or creativity, etc. it requires nonlinear skills such as independent thinking, pair of analysis-synthesis, envisioning, open-mindedness, being able to think broad, think deep accordingly. People with cognitive intelligence demonstrate multidimensional thought processes such as critical thinking, creative thinking, or holistic thinking, etc, to solve complex problems thoroughly.

Integral capability: Capability is usually underpinned by more hard and soft factors such as talent, process, motivation, special training, etc. The basic capabilities to keep you surviving. All high professionals need to continue sharpening their skillset and building their integral professional capability. Complex professional capabilities may include dependencies; one is part of another or depends on another. To intentionally develop an integral professional capability, you need to identify the capability gaps by looking ahead - what’s your natural talent you have not tapped, which linear capabilities you already have. Learning, experiencing, training, are all important to keep building integral capabilities.

Nowadays, to adapt to the increasing pace of changes, capabilities are usually more integral, built via the combination of talent, learning, skills, experience, resource, etc. with shortened delivery cycles. The concept of “integral” often refers to mixing or synthesizing a few nonlinear capabilities that people deliberately develop at the flow of their career journey. An integral capability enables you to create something new out of something existing, and making leapfrogging professional transcendence. The integrity and suitability of the competency is tested through traits such as mental learning agility, attitude, passion, motivation, entrepreneurship, leadership, maturity and wisdom. etc. To improve professional capabilities, expedite capability development cycle, and achieve capability coherence, choose how to improve capabilities based on your raw talent, innate strengths: as well as integrate a set of capabilities into core competency.

Innovative capability:
Being innovative is a state of mind, innovative capabilities enable people to think differently, see things differently, and do things differently. When people have the courage to leave inside box thoughts and standards to seek additional resources, updated knowledge, and new experiences, they are open for change, stepping outside that box into unfamiliar territories, making invaluable inquiries, trying new combinations of old or new things, embracing new concepts that you may have never imagined, to turn on the innovation light bulb and build innovation competencies. By sharpening innovation capabilities, organizational leaders and professionals of the future will not be mere automation, but continue to discover, explore, improve, and achieve “the art of possible.”

What many see as innovativeness is actually a problem-solving competency. Innovation is adding meaningful value, improving the products or processes, understanding how systems work, and solving problems in alternative ways. There are many indicators to assess the intrinsic innovation capacity of individuals such as cognitive ability and styles, interdisciplinary skills and knowledge, plasticity (fast learning), openness to experience, tolerance of ambiguity, intellectual engagement, creative problem-solving, ability to identify patterns or make unusual connections, tendency to constantly question the status quo, capacity to adapt, emotional intelligence and risk-taking attitude. Being innovative is a growth mindset and a proactive attitude. You cannot wait for something to happen, keep curious, always think profoundly, learn new things, and acquire new capabilities to build innovation competency.

Today’s digital business is more dynamic and complex than ever; digital professionals shouldn’t just be an order taker only, but need to keep building unique professional competency. You become what you do, and you improve when you reflect and rectify what you have done; keep the movement on, otherwise, you might get lost in the fear, anxiety, and problems. Global leaders and professionals need to demonstrate confidence based on their fitting mindset, and have the right dose of ego -be confident, not arrogant, to keep developing their professional competency, make contribution to their organizations and shared societies in a professional, unique and consistent way.
