Innovation

Innovation is the sustainable and scalable way that can be learned and practiced.

Innovativeness is absolutely a mindset. The human imagination has proved itself appropriate for the task of providing sustainable, scientific, and engineering solutions to what we use, for what purpose, and how we go about obtaining what we require. 

The purpose of Innovation Management is to manage innovation as a process, have the right dose of innovation appetite, manage a healthy innovation portfolio with the right mix of incremental innovation and breakthrough innovation, to reap the short-term gain and long-term innovation benefits.

Innovation & neutralization: We live in a world with a mix of physical and virtual, order and chao, freedom and discipline, opportunity and risk, fear and favor, etc. A balanced viewpoint is crucial to overcome extreme thinking or action. 

What is needed to develop innovation is lots more independent hybrid talents to neutralize differences, bridge gaps, balance the seemingly opposite forces such as process and innovation, stability and dynamism, logic and intuition, customization and standardization, etc. It’s important to consciously identify your blind spot, set common principles for looking beyond the surface, balance diverse viewpoints, and continue to experiment and innovate.

Innovation & reciprocity: Innovation often happens at the intersection of people and process; business and customers, etc. It’s the reciprocity that sets the tone of culture of trust; it's trust that is the key determinant of any collaborative effort to collaborative innovation. Reciprocity works because of shared goals, which create less stress on the relationship by incorporating competing and collaborating harmoniously. 

Asking questions, besides telling, is an important tool to practice reciprocal management for leading innovation. The reciprocal relationships based on interconnectivity, interdependence or healthy competitions enable teams or organizations to harness innovation. The reciprocal divergence-convergence cycle enables the individuals or organizations to search for the path to improve innovation excellence.

Innovation & logic:
Good information opens our mind to connect cross-boundary dots for sparking ideas; good logic brings us lucid light to in-depth understanding which can spur innovation more effectively. In the dynamic business today, innovation logic is often nonlinear and multifaceted. In fact, creativity is consciousness with a sort of logic that allows one to see how all things can be both connected or disconnected to create completely new forms, ideas, or systems. 

Innovative problem-solving logic is often nonlinear and multi-dimensional. Organizations can no longer rely on a single individual or team to drive innovation. Take inferential logic to understand the real problems and illustrate them, take a process of deduction to derive a solution drawing from knowledge, experience, and out-of-the-box creativity in order to solve them innovatively.

Innovation fails because everyone is talking about it instead of doing it collaboratively. The success of innovation management is a thought-out planning and seamless execution. Organizations need to make an objective assessment of innovation appetite, attitude, and aptitude, manage an innovation portfolio to achieve great business results structurally. Innovation is the sustainable and scalable way that can be learned and practiced.
