Initiativesofinformation

The effective and productive Information/Knowledge Management activities and scenarios should understand and manage complexity, know how to prioritize based on the business needs for producing qualitative results and accelerating performance.

Information is growing abundantly and knowledge is the power to lead transformative changes. Information/Knowledge (IK) is one of the most critical business assets beside people.

The workplace today is provocative, passionate, really intrinsically motivated about and courageous enough to break through traditional thinking ceilings and harness cross-functional understanding and innovation. Information is an ingredient of knowledge; but in order to interpret information; you need knowledge; in order to be more innovative, Information/knowledge shouldn’t be stale, but need to keep fluid to generate great ideas and create its value.

Innovation &informaiton/knowledge: Our co-shared world has a long history, abundant knowledge, and rapid growth of information, perhaps influencing the cycle of organizational balance and growth. Knowledge management plays a crucial role in building a learning organization and shaping an innovative business. To become innovative, one would have to break down some old rules, outdated mindsets, knowledge, or concepts, but you should learn and have an in-depth understanding of them first.

It means people should learn from different channels, transcend information to knowledge to insight and ultimate wisdom for professional competency. If corporate knowledge is hidden within silos, it cannot release its full potential. Hence, interdisciplinarians are in demand to bridge subject doman differences, identify the root causes of many complex problems; and solve them collaboratively.

Knowledge & growth:
Knowledge professionals understand that learning is a lifetime experience, and then, their experience will be a building block to gain fresh knowledge and develop unique professional competencies. Individuals who over time through learning, practice, and education, have become experts; and they can practice expert power for leading progressive changes.

So in the organizational environment, what the business management can and should do is to provide the opportunities for talent development, to hone people’s talents and let them shine. Besides managing existing knowledge, knowledge management activities today need to shift from process heavy to people driven. As information/knowledge management is a business or human problem, not a technological problem. An effective knowledge management breaks down silos, enhances business growth & development, improves organizational learning agility and unleash collective potential.

Information/Knowledge & capability:
All business processes need to create value; there is a continuous strive for better knowledge in the world in which we live. Thanks to digital information technologies, now we can share knowledge, brainstorm, and co-create ideas with “like-minded,” or “complementary-minded” talented people from all over the world. It's no surprise that we will see more cross disciplinary knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Knowledge is not for its own sake, but to develop capabilities, either individually or organizationally to achieve strategic goals of the organization. How viable the business is depends on the business's learning agility and its ability to integrate, build, and reconfigure internal and external competences to address rapidly changing environments, build new capability, and improve organizational core competencies.

Information/knowledge gets stale sooner than what you thought, people have to be humble to realize that there are many things they know they don’t know and perhaps even more which they don't know what they don't know. Knowledge cycles drive the emergence, extend through and beyond the scope of the organization. The effective and productive Information/Knowledge Management activities and scenarios should understand and manage complexity, know how to prioritize based on the business needs for producing qualitative results and accelerating performance.
