Systems Thinking vs. Creativity

Systems Thinking provides the frame to inspire creativity with a focus and managing innovation out of chaos.

The purpose of Systems Thinking is to solve problems and creating desirable futures. The goal of creativity is to connect the dots for generating naval ideas. So many people do not know how to connect the dots within complex systems, nor think inclusively or holistically, nor comprehend dynamics, induction or deduction, nor understand expensive variables, interfaces, and interactions. Here is the dot connection between creativity and Systems Thinking.

Creativity is about connecting dots; Systems Thinking needs to discover the interconnectivity and interdependence: Systems Thinking helps to discover the connectivity and common ground from the difference. A system thinker can see the patterns others may not, it provides the better opportunity to connect dots and switch on creativity. Systems Thinkers desire to listen to the different viewpoint and shape their own viewpoint; more specifically, they can see invisible behind visible; they can perceive connectivity and interdependence between parts and the whole; they can learn lessons from the past; they can predict the trend of changes; they can envision how the small wave of changes might turn to the big tide and change the future significantly; they are both knowledgeable and imaginable, that ultimately makes them more innovative. Traditional thinking minds are often clouded by past experience or conventional wisdom, but creative minds are always open for the new perspective, gain unique insight through asking the right questions and open for varying answers to spark creativity.

To be creative, you need to be conscious, curious about the things that surround you. The voice of Systems Thinking is to communicate within the spiral of conscious awareness: The nature of consciousness is important in creativity. Creativity is consciousness. It's such a desire that allows one to see how all things can be both connected or disconnected to create completely new forms, systems, and ideas. To be conscious is to be aware and engaged with both the inner world of thought, feeling, choice, and the exterior world of synergy, experience, and relationship. The interaction between these two parts of our existence is the home of our creativity. On the other side, to be truly creative requires the suppression of many of the parts of our consciousness which we rely on most heavily in everyday life. Sometimes it evolves subconsciousness for capturing the “AHA Moment” for kindling the myth of creativity. A self-conscious mind with systems thinking has the strength and the willpower to follow the courageous heart, and thus, has the better chance to be creative. You are the light of knowledge and it is your light that helps in sparking creativity and evolution of consciousness.

The systematic structure provides the shell within which individuals can collaborate to create transparency to problems and amplify collective creativity: Innovation is how to convert novel ideas and achieve its business value. People tend to focus on internal circumstances. Innovation often has a lot to do with external circumstances. Thus, assessing the innovation capability of any organization requires a systematic approach. At an organizational level, a systematic innovation process leads to the development of a project foundation, recognizing the challenge, understanding boundaries, and stakeholders core discipline. Innovation success needs to be defined with the tangible value it brings to the business and the level of impact it could make.

Systems Thinking provides the frame to inspire creativity with a focus and managing innovation out of chaos. Leveraging Systems Thinking in harnessing innovation is all about taking a scientific approach to problem identifying and solving, embracing uncertainty, identifying interconnections and interdependencies, encouraging learning, and understanding flows.
