Organizations need diversity of characters, mindsets, skills, personalities, talent, and experience to be innovative.
Intellectual association: We get innumerable thoughts every moment, they pass unconsciously, and sometimes, those thoughts trigger other thoughts to create new ideas or fresh insights. Such intellectual association seems to be more perceptually based, related to the "aha" phenomenon, and can be below conscious awareness. Cognitively, our minds are conditioned based on our own belief systems, education, and past happenings. To connect wide dots for triggering creativity and improve perception intelligence, do not always follow conventional wisdom or preconceived opinions, become an independent thinker and fast learner, continue updating knowledge and gaining fresh insight.
All living beings are creative, creativity could be a fountain flowing out of you, it could also fluctuate, seems to disappear at times, get blocked, or sparkle in abundance and flow out. Collectively, silos are reservoirs for homogeneous thinking, stifle creativity and limit imagination of the organization. Heterogeneous groups with diverse thought processes, cross-cultural, cross generational backgrounds, various experiences, etc, can harness intellectual association, nurture a learning culture, assimilate diversity, and amplify creativity effects.
Perspective shifting: With unprecedented uncertainty and complexity, to solve problems creatively, knowledge is no doubt important but more than that is complete awareness of what is happening in the context from a system perspective, as well as understanding multifaceted digital reality. We all have walked in the shoes and seen the problem or situation from the others’ point of view. A holistic perspective can fix the misperception by exploring multiple thought processes and listening to different viewpoints. Digital leaders and professionals have to really dig beneath the superficial layer, shift perspectives, see around the corner and transcend the interdisciplinary knowledge, to get to the heart of the matter.
Opposite reasoning: we shift the world from black & white to embrace the full color spectrum. Our beliefs are developed from what we see, hear and experience growing up. Some of these beliefs develop from our misinterpretation of what we see, hear and experience. Unfortunately, some perceptions are outdated, the learned beliefs are oftentimes limiting our mind, forming our biases or blind us from seeing the other side of the coin. It’s important to craft mindsets with thinking processes that hold onto its natural connectivity while being prepared to connect the dots even in the opposite direction should make sense.
Challenge, debate, learn the nature of each other through the aspect of civil and respectful dialog. Too often, we operate on autopilot, with our thoughts, emotions, and decisions coming from a subconscious level - accurate or not. As the unique ability to work and produce fresh ideas, creativity requires a certain degree of independence and mental balance, the traits and skills, the proper psychological level of inner security, and the neurodiversity to even make opposite reasoning. This helps in acknowledging different or contrasting views and shares the thoughts as to how it can address the issue under consideration without berating anyone for their views, in order to solve it creatively.
Organizations need diversity of characters, mindsets, skills, personalities, talent, and experience to be innovative. The business leaders do not focus on hierarchy but on building great teams to foster creativity, openness, achievement, and leverage different thinking tools to develop mental strength and improve creative intelligence.
