Unprofessionalism

Uncovering weakness, improving cognitive ability, building professional strength, and recharging fresh energy is a continuous journey to unleash human potential.

With rapid changes and exponential growth of information, it doesn’t mean if you had a profession, you would automatically be a well-respected professional with high professionalism. Unprofessionalism leads to outdated thinking, misjudgment, drives ineffective decisions, inconsistent actions, and further causes fragility and stagnation. 

Business leaders and professionals today need to continue learning and growing to avoid blind spots in decision-making and overcome the pitfalls to improve the next level of professional maturity.

Uncritical thinking: The world we live with is full of uncertainty, ambiguity, with the mix of quality data and outdated information, old and new, solid and flow, truth or false; uncritical thinking causes misjudgment, unconscious bias, ineffective decision-making or conflicts, etc. Critical thinking about problems involves looking at the question first to determine whether it's true or false. The opposite of critical thinking is characterized by snap judgments, passive thinking, wishful thinking, or group thinking, reflexive emotional responses, pattern behavior -following a pattern or accepting behavior "without thinking’" or "because it's always been done that way before. " etc, all of which fits for the category of “thinking less.”

Uncritical thinking creates more blind spots uncovered and gaps unfilled. The essence of critical thinking is careful deliberation, examination, and testing of assumptions, and consideration of opposing views and is often based on false premises and biased opinions. Either individually or collaboratively, critical thinking is important to understand, frame, and solve today’s multilayer, interdependent, and over-complex business problems.

Unhealthy competitions:
There are many reasons to compete, and there are many ways to compete. In the industrial age with scarce knowledge, and in the organizations that get stuck at the low level of maturity, the management demonstrates silo mentality with command & control style, cause unhealthy internal competitions for limited resources, sometimes people hold the negative attitude about competition, confuse competition with office politics, negative conflict, etc. That enlarges gaps, causes psychological confusion & frustrations, and stifle collective human progress.

Unhealthy competitions create unhealthy rivalries that result in people resenting one another or encourage negative mentality or behavior, diminish trust and stifle innovation. To encourage healthy competitions for catalyzing creativity and discourage unhealthy completions, the real issue is to figure out the motivation or purpose behind the competition psychologically, sociologically or methodologically. The right attitude is to have a positive attitude, do not keep the eyes on the competitors only, but laser focus on discovering who you are, and keep positive energy flow on building your own competence.

Undereducated workforce
: With exponential growth of information and shortened knowledge cycle, digital workforce needs to continue learn to ride above the learning curve, otherwise, undereducated workforce will get static and lag behind. There are formal education and informal education. Education is the means to the end, it should never become a status quo. Through quality education and learning, people have in themselves all that is needed to become fulfilled individuals; they are not in competition with their peers, but rather with themselves, in becoming professionals with differentiated competencies.

Learning curve is deep in the “VUCA” new normal. Do not underestimate the learning curve, and do not get overwhelmed by the intensity of learning. Education is the journey with accumulated steps. Continue to see the importance of dealing with blind spots by learning how to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and be open-minded to embrace diverse viewpoints. Regardless of which stage you are at the career development cycle, forethoughtful leaders or professionals should continue learning, innovating or coaching to enhance upcycle of professionalism and deepen their influence. create obstacles for defining the right problems or solving them smoothly.

The business environment is full of uncertainty, velocity, complexity, and ambiguity, the multi-generational, multicultural, and multi-devicing digital workforce are more diverse and dynamic than ever. Uncovering weakness, improving cognitive ability, building professional strength, and recharging fresh energy is a continuous journey to unleash human potential. High professionalism is an important quality for today’s multigenerational, multicultural and multi-devicing workforce to accelerate performance and lead transformative changes.
