All diverse creatures share this beautiful planet with limited resources, it’s always important to understand and support each other, to shape an advanced society with respect and enlightenment.
Taipei is a large metropolitan area with more than four centuries of history. There are different styles and sizes of parks and gardens, integrating nature beauty, eastern charm, or Western tastes. I visited a few city parks across the different districts of Taipei city recently, intending to know this metropolitan city deeply.
Near Yuanshan subway, yuanshan park has a great landscape design with tropical trees, diverse plants, and flowers. Farmers came here to exhibit their products such as different vegetables, jams honey, dried fruits, etc They put their names or their farms' names on the side of the stands. So visitors could trust their brands with transparency. Nearby, there is an expo center for various events periodically; there are also walking streets with different eateries. Taipei had hundreds of such streets across the different regions of the city.
The other park near Taipei Rose Garden is Jian Tan Park. You need to climb up to the stone ladders and enjoy the views of tropical plants and flowers. There is a large hotel & restaurant on the hill, people often confuse it with the art museum.
Later, I visited the Taipei National Art Museum. Across the road from the Yuanshan subway station, the National Art Museum was only a few blocks away. I went there to participate in an exhibition called “Small World” There were artwork sessions crafting sessions and miniature art to demonstrate part of the society.
The exhibition halls are very spacious, but I feel there were not enough artworks to highlight the theme “small world.” Here are a few perspectives I would like to provoke the thoughts on:
Small world - can we reencounter each other somewhere?
Small world - can we see our beautiful planet as a tiny blue dot from outer space?
Small world - how can we get to know each other through the empathetic lens in today’s hyper-connected, interdependent world?
Big Zhongshan Park, mini Yixian garden: I visited Zhongshan Memorial Park near Taipei government buildings. It has a spacious square and a set of statues of Mr Sunzhongshan who advocated democratic society in Eastern societies. He had another name Yixian. I walked through the small garden called Yixian Park near the train station. It had flower blossoms. A few people sat there, sipping the drink and relaxing.
Bihu and Xiuhu Lake Parks: I took the bus to get to Bihu Park surrounded by a mid-sized lake. The water was clear, lucid, like a green emerald. There were well-designed bridges pavilions and temples. There was also a hiking trail nearby. A statue with two dancers shaking hands together, with the letters “Unity Harmony” printed on the wall. I walked across the bridge, circling the lake and enjoying the views. I was still full of energy; and decided to visit another park Xiuhu to appreciate the natural beauty in Taipei.
I walked further, and about twenty minutes later, another Great Lake unfolded in front of me in the riverside. Standing on the moon bridge, we could watch over the lake with remote mountains. Suddenly two beautiful birds flew over from the lake towards the top of the trees. I watched above: there were dozens of large birds nested on the giant laurel tree; I watched down and saw a person fishing; a few pretty, black and white birds landed near him perhaps waiting for him to feed them some seafood. After walking down from the bridge and moving ahead, there were hiking trails. People can take alternative activities on the weekend.
Those parks were built with purposes, not only for entertaining tourists or locals but also for protecting the natural environment and keeping the balanced green ecosystem. All diverse creatures share this beautiful planet with limited resources, it’s always important to understand and support each other, to shape an advanced society with respect and enlightenment.
