Milan – The contemporary city with great architectures and fashion design

We should participate in more cultural events, go further, dive deeper, explore surroundings, to understand the quintessence of Milan and carry on the creative spirit of Da Vinci.

After visiting Switzerland, I was heading to Italy – a culture-enriched nation with lots of historical heritages, natural beautiful landscapes - mountains and rivers, as well as many innovative products. The first city I visited in Italy was Milan – a city famous with its antique architectural buildings and creative fashion designs. Is it possible to only spend two days there, exploring broad and deeper enough, for getting to know Milan’s global charm?

The sun was rising, but still a bit chilly when I stepped up from the underground subway in the morning, I knew I stood up at the city center of Milan – the famous Duomo square, in which famous architectural buildings stand thousands of years, pigeons flying around freely. In fact Duomo -Cathedral of Milano, is one of the most famous squares with holy churches, magnificent galleries, brand name fashion department stores, and content enriched museums with anthropological themes.

I visited the Duomo museum, a photographic exhibition upstairs, the Duomo Cathedral, and Galleria Vittorio with many brand name department stores. Inside Duomo museum, there are quite many female and male sculptures which reflect people’s life experience in Ancient time; there are oil paintings of Italy’s landscapes, skylines, and humans; the upstairs’ photographic exhibitions display emotions, expressions, styles and tastes of diversified people. The Cathedral looks very exquisite with fine-design and artistic taste - the smooth marble frame, illuminated glass-stained windows with church style artworks within. All of which educates us about architecture, history, religion, art, anthropology, etc.

It is not only the black Friday weekend, but also the Marathon day. There are no buses operated in the downtown area, residents in Milan actively participate in their community activities, and also treat tourists friendly. There are shopping streets across the Duomo square, you could find quite a lot of good deals on that black Friday weekend. I left my beloved broken old boots there, and put the new boots on. Isn’t Milan’s fashion irresistible? I didn’t visit design galleries because it’s weekend time, they might not open. But walking around downtown, we can feel the fashion culture here, the design patterns, color themes, and the healthy business cycles in the area.

We all admire Da Vinci as a prolific artist and inventor who made significant contributions to modern society. In the afternoon, I took the subway, went to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology. There are agriculture ecosystem exhibition rooms, space exhibition room, fashion/craft sewing rooms, Kaleidoscope light spectrum presentation room, etc.

After staying here a few days, I believe Milan is a historical, culture-enriched city with lots of hidden gems such as design studios or art galleries. The tourists’ hot spots uncover only pieces of this charismatic city. We should participate in more cultural events, go further, dive deeper, explore surroundings, to understand the quintessence and carry on the creative spirit of Da Vinci.
