Business Architecture should play a critical role in designing and managing future businesses that become truly proactive and move up the organizational maturity level.

Building an evolving digital organization is to advocate the concept of “business as a whole is superior to the sum of pieces. Business architecture provides an invaluable set of philosophy, methodology, and mechanism for performing a wide array of tasks including strategic positioning, process optimization, balancing the business priorities and forcing conversations that are otherwise difficult to have, to make an impact on all crucial aspects of the organization.

The business architecture equivalent takes a look at Architecture as a useful tool to help organizational leaders look at complexity via different lenses: Enterprises are inherently and intensely complex, diverse, and ambiguous with unpredictable outcomes. There are unknown interactions and very high inner dynamics in complexity. Business architecture seeks to look through a variety of complexity, reduce unnecessary complexity through abstraction and separation of concerns, connecting optimization points from project to organization, enhancing reusability and improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

The business is complex, the people are complex, there’s no such thing as absolutely good or bad, you just need to have the special eyes to discern it; the holistic mind to untangle it. Business Architecture as an important tool to look at the multitude of complexity from a business impact perspective as well as from a solution perspective, make strategic alignment, eliminate unnecessary complexity and enforce desired complexity, in order to untangle it systematically in search of simpler concepts and methods.

Architecture should have the capability to transform the manual process and the business requirement to process design and process governance: Business process-driven management and governance at the senior level is based on a high-level "architecture" of the business process. Business Architecture is "what" is in business, and business process management drives "How." The interactions of the business processes across multiple business departments are what create the process architecture of an organization, leading to the business architecture.

Both business architecture and process reengineering are business management philosophy; a holistic management practice, not for their own sake, but for understanding, managing and governing an organization better for achieving business agility. It requires senior management understanding and involvement at strategic level, providing process-aware information systems, well-defined accountability and a culture receptive to business processes management.

The purpose of business architecture is about achieving a situational balanced compromise or a tradeoff:
The digital era upon us is about people-centricity. Organizational management needs to make necessary tradeoffs from diverse perspectives of stakeholders in the business and focus on your top strategic priorities at the moment. Business Architecture as an effective tool to make certain tradeoffs for balancing growth and stability, innovation and standardization, process and flexibility, etc, to climb up the organizational maturity pyramid from functioning to firm to delight organizations.

To improve employee engagement and increase customer satisfaction, business architecture is about the human element; it is much needed when someone's needs are being sacrificed for others' wants. If you need to retain your best customers or approach the new market share, then customer satisfaction is critical, business management and employees need to work hard and smart, proactively concentrate on keeping customers happier by putting more resources, time, and talent on them. Business Architecture input can be used to direct resources and attention to strengthening business, make necessary tradeoffs, so that the organization’s mission, vision, and goals can be realized.

The business architecture is an important framework in improving business sustainability performance
: Sustainability is not just the buzzword about corporate social responsibility, it is the new gold and means the bottom line profitability in the lower carbon, sustainable economic era. In most organizations, sustainability isn’t integrated into existing key processes & performance management systems. Sustainability is about minimizing the usage of non-renewable resources, optimizing resource use, cutting emission and recycling waste. The business architecture is an important framework in optimizing business capabilities to improve corporate sustainability and ensure the long-term economic success of the enterprise.

The high-performance enterprise should recognize the integrated connection between its supply chain and sustainability, embedding sustainability into key business processes, forward-looking organizations who dug into architecture seriously will end up in sustainability, make an influence on the environment, also dig the new gold through it and improve business’s bottom line, orchestrate the energy-efficiency, sustainability-savvy, and resource-optimized modern organization.

Business Architecture should play a critical role in designing and managing future businesses that become truly proactive and move up the organizational maturity level. Effective architecture tools enhance contextual understanding of the business, facilitate relevant communication without getting lost in translation. An Architect is able to see beyond tactical solutions, assess organizational capabilities, structures, interdependence, risks, etc, define more than one way of reaching “to-be” state, to improve the large-scale change success rate.
