Contemporary leadership is about a clear vision and a planned attitude of the free mind, risk-taking, innovation to lead organizations and our societies to make leapfrog changes and unleash collective potential courageously.
It is imperative that "leadership" can be explained, explored, understood and embraced for it to be of any value interdisciplinarily.
Leadership & invention: Invention creates; innovation realizes value. Invention is making ideas from money, innovation is making money from ideas. Great leaders inspire inventions and catalyze innovation. Invention is to create something more advanced than what currently has been used. Innovation is doing something better than it currently is. Hence, both require a sound and competent understanding of what is currently being done, as well as how to solve the problems more effortlessly. Innovation is somewhere between invention and implementation - finding different ways of doing things and come up with alternative solutions. It's a mindset. Innovative leaders are in strong demand to inspire creativity, and influence a culture of learning
Innovative ways of thinking lead to unique, value-added inventions. Invention transforms challenges and problems into creative answers. Innovation is the integration of the invention into real world processes, and customized solutions. Innovation is the practical application of new inventions into marketable products or services. If invention is a picture snapshot, then innovation is a colorful playbook, with all possible combinations of scenarios and all shades of relationships. Innovative leaders are orchestrators for thread holding inventions and building a balanced innovation management portfolio.
Leadership & investment: Leadership is about direction and change. Great leaders are excellent investors who are future-oriented, able to make an objective assessment of people, business models, technologies, etc. Investing is a complicated thing, in fact, achieving visibility of strategic investment helps the management discover the path to where they need to move for investing business initiatives with growth potentiality and progressive societal impact for increasing multifaceted business value significantly.
Investment is both art and science. You can only do as much as you are "invested" in the company to fit for the strategic goal of the company and generate unique business value. The innovation leaders need to become insightful investors through proposals, pitches, scenarios, analysis and stories that might resonate with the company, analyzing business models that list all of the sources of value, cost, risk, and contain formulas to interconnect them. They advocate entrepreneurship/ intrapreneurship activities, strike the right balance of short-term gain and long-term perspective, and put emphasis on investing in people-centric innovation continually.
The "hard-core" of leadership also has soft touch such as communication and reputation. Many organizations that get stuck at the lower level of maturity are divided by so many gaps across leadership, management, and innovation, etc. The great leadership is only achieved once a leader has fully integrated themselves via deep introspective work and has the willingness to do this; integrating diverse perspectives or multidimensional viewpoints into a cross-boundary perspective; integrating leadership altitude, attitude, and aptitude into a unique leadership profile; integrating hard and soft science, pulling past, present, and future together to dig into humanity and pursue universal wisdom. In fact, leadership maturity is based on integrating leadership and management into a successful business transformation formula.
Digital is the age of information abundance; leaders have the ability to perceive clearly and influence deeply; striving to be true to their intentions in much the same way as an artist tries to stay true to their subject or the scientists to stay true to their research. Each of us is not separate elite boxes; we are all creative leaders with multidimensional intelligence and numerous possibilities. Contemporary leadership is about a clear vision and a planned attitude of the free mind, risk-taking, innovation to lead organizations and our societies forward with leapfrogging changes and unleash collective potential courageously.
