IT integration

Integration has to be done with a “big picture,” having the business architecture in mind that supports the strategic goals of the organization.

Digital transformation is fueled by the integration of information technology (IT) into all areas of an organization. IT, comprising computer hardware, software, and telecommunications, has become essential to organizational operations and management.

Components of IT Integration

-Hardware and Software Computer hardware and software are fundamental to information systems, enabling the processing and management of data.

-Networking: Networking infrastructure is a critical component of IT, facilitating the transmission of data and communication across networks.

-Databases and Data Warehouses: Many information systems use databases to deliver data, which support the operations and management functions of an enterprise. Data warehouses contain archival data that can be mined for insights to improve business practices.

-Big Data: The massive collection and processing of quantitative and textual data has evolved into "big data," offering benefits such as evidence-based decision-making and new business models.

Data Analysis Processing textual data from social networks and other sources enables automated sentiment analysis, which is valuable for marketing, competitive intelligence, and product development.

Seamless application connection: Seamless application connection is achieved through technologies like APIs and middleware, which facilitate communication between different software programs.

APIs: Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are sets of standardized requests that enable different computer programs to communicate with each other. APIs define how a developer can request services from a program, making it easier to work with other applications across different computing platforms. They establish a standardized way to access databases, upload and download files, and pass messages between programs and users.

Middleware: Middleware is computer software that enables communication between multiple software applications, potentially running on different machines. It ensures that different programs work smoothly together, allowing users to interface with one program, manipulate data in another, and query a database with yet another.

Thus, integration has to be done with a “big picture,” having the business architecture in mind that supports the strategic goals of the organization, such as revenue growth, margin improvement, or customer satisfaction etc. Digital IT organizations need to move alignment to the next level, from reluctant IT-business alignment for filling gaps to proactive IT- IT-IT-customer alignment for achieving people centricity.
