ChicaogoMuseums

Besides merchandise shows and shopping districts in Chicago, these museums enrich our experience to learn history, art and science, provoke our thoughts cross disciplinarily.

Chicago as a large metropolitan city has a considerably long history of Industrial Revolution, civil movement, deep anthropological root, and elegant architecture design. Strolling along the beautiful Michigan lake bank, there are quite a few great modern museums that showcase science, art and different aspects of societal development.

The Adler Planetarium in Chicago: Sitting on the Museum Campus along Lake Michigan, with stunning views of the Chicago skyline, the Adler Planetarium in Chicago is a renowned institution dedicated to astronomy and space science. It opened in 1930, making it the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere.

There are introductions about space and stars, a collection of antique scientific instruments, a few kids playground. I watched an immense sky show in the 3D theater with a scientific fiction story about taking the spaceship to explore the galaxy freely. Its a nice experience.

Overall, it’s a mid sized science planetary museum at which school kids can learn astronomy and science via entertainment, sparking curiosity and imagination

The Field Museum: It is a natural history museum known for its extensive collection of fossils, artifacts, and exhibits on world cultures and environments. It's located on the Museum Campus, very close to the Adler Planetarium. The Field museum exhibitions cover a wide range of topics including ancient cultures, natural history, gems, fossils, Pottery, bronze, paintings, conservation, and more. Underground Adventure  explores the world of bugs and soil creatures. The Ancient Americas exhibition showcases life of indigenous peoples of the Americas. Abbot Hall of Conservation's Restoring Earth studies biodiversity and conservation efforts. They draw from the museum's collection of over millions objects representing long long years of human history.

The Field Museum's diverse and immersive exhibits provide visitors with a comprehensive exploration of natural history, ancient cultures, and scientific discoveries. It's worth visiting.

The Museum of Science and Industry (MSI): The first museum I visited in Chicago is this science museum which offers a range of science exhibits. It’s a castle-like building with a grandeur architecture design. Here are some subject of exhibitions:

Extreme Ice: This exhibit uses dramatic images and time-lapse videos to show the pace of glacier melting and the effects of climate change.

A Mirror Maze: An elaborate mirror maze that reveals the mathematical patterns inherent in nature, such as the Golden Ratio.

The Great Train Story: A model railroad exhibit that features over 30 trains running on 1,400 feet of track, depicting a journey from Seattle to Chicago.

Science Storms: A two-story exhibit that explores the science behind natural phenomena like tornadoes, lightning, fire, tsunamis, sunlight, avalanches, and atoms.

Healthcare Experience:  This exhibit explores what it means to live a healthy life in the 21st century.

The Art of the Bicycle: Displays rare and historic bicycles alongside new high-tech models.

Galaxy star introduction and Space Center: Features artifacts and interactive displays related to space exploration,

It’s a nice museum worth visiting, but more advanced technology pieces can be demonstrated to reflect the digital era we live in, improving it’s value of education and entertainment.

The Art Institute of Chicago: It’s a premier art museums located in the city center of Chicago. Actually it’s one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States. The Art Institute of Chicago is renowned for its world-class collection and  exhibitions, and commitment to art education. Important Collection includes

Ancient and Byzantine Art

Architecture and Design

Asian Art

European Decorative Arts

Modern and Contemporary Art

American Art

Photography

The museum is also connected with many art design galleries. It's a nice place for art enthusiasts and a cultural cornerstone of Chicago.

University of Chicago museums: When I visited the campus of University of Chicago, it’s spacious and green. There are two museums I visited there.

Smart Museum of Art: It features exhibitions and programs focused on modern and contemporary art, as well as works from the university's diverse collections. Majority of art pieces are made by Asian artists. Its collection and exhibitions showcase the diversity and richness of artistic expression across cultures and time periods.

Oriental Institute Museum: The Oriental Institute Museum showcases artifacts and exhibits related to the ancient Near East, including Egypt, Mesopotamia, Iran, Syria, and Anatolia. It houses comprehensive collections of artifacts from the ancient Middle East.

Besides merchandise shows and shopping districts in Chicago, these museums enrich our experience to learn history, art and science, provoke our thoughts cross disciplinarily, educate and entertain us as modern global citizens and carry on invaluable cultural heritage.
