Interdisciplinary Leadership

Leadership is about growth; it compounds. It is about leading others the way you would want to be led. It is about developing leaders who can then develop other leaders.

Leadership is complex, and although it has many facets, at its core, the foundation of leadership is character. There is absolutely no denying that. Often, authentic leadership is cultivating via tears and feels.

Leadership can be viewed from multiple perspectives, including those of interdisciplinary understanding and emotional intelligence.

Leadership is about influence from a sociological perspective: In social activities, leaders must continuously validate their leadership by demonstrating their influence on followers, as they often lack formal authority. This creates a reciprocal relationship where leaders formulate policies and practices that resonate with their followers, using persuasion and innovation to create the impression of collaborative problem solving.

Leadership is about true understanding: Perceiving emotions in oneself and others. Understand emotions to develop empathy. Use emotions in thought and action. Manage or control emotions. There is increasing evidence that EQ plays a significant part in leadership roles, the test and best of leadership comes during times of change and crisis, when people are most vulnerable.

Leadership is about driving change from a systematic perspective:

-Rational System Perspective: Organizational leaders have certain authoritative power. This focuses on formal structural power and goal-oriented collaboration.

-Natural System Perspective: Leaders influence via their authenticity and knowledge power. This emphasizes informal, interpersonal structural power and the idea that consensus-building and conflict resolution drive organizational culture and action.

-Open-System Perspective: Leaders influence via their vision and purpose across boundaries. This view organizations as intertwined with their environments, where the boundary between the organization and its environment is indistinct.

Leadership is a process. Leadership is also about growth; it compounds. It is about leading others the way you would want to be led. It is about developing leaders who can then develop other leaders.
