Insight 12/03-12/11

Blogging is not about writing, but about thinking, brainstorming, innovating and sharing.

The “Future of CIO” Blog has reached 3 million page views with 7300+ blog posting in 59+ different categories of leadership, management, strategy, digitalization, change/talent, etc.

The “Digital Master” book series includes 28 books to share insight from the multidimensional digital lens and perceive the multi-faceted impact the digital era upon us is making to businesses and society. The content richness is not for its own sake, but to convey the vision and share the wisdom. Here is the weekly insight of digital leadership, IT Management, and Talent Management.

Influence Nowadays we step into the digital economy with exponential growth of information and abundant knowledge; the world has been interwoven through the internet and the latest technologies, leadership becomes more interdisciplinary, influential and innovative. Every profession and role has its unique influence based on insight to understand, confidence to assert, wisdom to negotiate, uniqueness to bridge, courage to break down barriers, and forward-thinking to drive progressive changes. So digital leaders and high mature professionals need to have abilities to “calibrate their impact,” being able to lead through influence, not by brute force.

Unimaginable Uniqueness In the industrial era with a silo setting and scarcity of information, standardization and efficiency are the main themes to run a business. However, now we step into the digital era with exponential growth of information and fierce competition, creativity is the most desired quality for digital professionals and personalization is an important attribute to delight customers. Either individually or collectively, uniqueness is the very characteristic to differentiate yourself from mass and build competitive advantage. In fact, organizations face a challenge to evaluate the value of employees in an objective and effective way. The true value of people, especially today’s high professional knowledge workforces include many tangible and intangible factors, and they are multidimensional both in qualitative or quantitative ways.

Innovative Idealization & Implementation "At the dawn of the digital era, the workforce today is hyper-connected and diverse in many ways, sharing a natural affinity for new perspectives, fresh ideas, and collective insight. The original germ of a creative idea often, if not always, arrives at the interaction of ideas from different domains of thought and experience, or information without boundary. For cracking serendipity code of idealization & implementations and achieving innovation premium, organizations should build a healthy working environment to encourage idea brainstorming, knowledge sharing, leverage effective information/knowledge/process management, clarify the following key issues, and take the scientific approach to innovation management.

Information Integrator With exponential growth of information and rapid change, Information technology is not just part of the business; it is an integrator which plays a significant role in weaving all necessary elements together to orchestrate a digital transformation symphony. The goal of information management is to process raw data and abstract information from it. Information management must reinforce that position by demonstrating every day how IT contributes to business success. In the end, it is not about information, but what information can provide when it is enabling and integrating with a variety of management disciplines and business processes to deliver the strategic differentiation.

Inclusiveness & Influence  Change is inevitable, organizational change has become a common practice within an organization, but too often changes are made as a reaction to outer impulses, crisis, and demands. This is the bureaucracy’s way of meeting the challenges. Digital transformation is achieved via dynamic Strategy-Execution-Change lifecycle management, though it is not all linear steps, but an iterative, ongoing and upgoing change continuum.

Blogging is not about writing, but about thinking about the new ideas; it’s not just about WHAT to say, but about WHY to say, and HOW to say it. It reflects the color and shade of your thought patterns, and it indicates the peaks and curves of your thinking waves. Unlike pure entertainment, quality and professional content takes time for digesting, contemplation and engaging, and therefore, it takes time to attract the "hungry minds" and the "deep souls." It’s the journey to amplify diverse voices and deepen digital footprints, and it's the way to harness your innovative spirit.
