Being multi-linguistic is not about learning a new language;
but about opening the new window to discover the world intimately.
If a strategic mindset think long term, a complexity mindset uses systematic thinking upon complex
problems; a creative mindset inspires out of box solutions to old problems; an agile mindset embraces adaptability to the changes and an intuitive mindset
captures insight with speed of thought, then, what benefit a multi-linguistic
mindset can bring to the world?
A multi-linguistic
mindset nourishes curiosity. Learning multiple languages provide important nourishment
for understanding different cultures and societies at a level that is not
possible to reach otherwise. It provides the insight gained on the why people
are what they are and what makes them tick formed through a diversity of
cultures and nuances. This is something which cannot be taught but only gained
through daily exposure. Cultural
awareness and intelligence are more important than a second or third language
to be able to communicate on a global arena. Speaking more than one language is
the key or the first step to understand other cultures, as language is like a
new window, only when you open it, you see….
A multi-linguistic mindset can improve one’s cogitative skills. Speaking more languages rather than just one has obvious practical benefits in an increasingly globalized world. But in recent years, scientists have begun to show that the advantages of multi-lilingualism are even more fundamental than being able to converse with a wider range of people. Being multi-lingual can have a profound effect on your brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and is proven to sharpen the brain, memory and think strategically and on the spot. Even if you don't use a second or third language on a daily basis, there are the benefits to your intelligence, including enhanced problem-solving abilities,
A multi-linguistic mindset is more inclusive of diverse point of view. The more languages you learn one at a time, the easier, the more you discover different logics and thought processes and improve to think different from various points of views. And poetry and science can easily be learned and performed at the same time. Language is purely a vehicle. The relevance of linking language to culture through learning of the former to understand the latter can only happen with grounding at home but ultimately education should not only focus on language but also anthropology. In today's world, having the ability to communicate in more than one language is a must, and having the talent of switching from one language to another (or more) is a great asset, but more importantly, it’s such an inclusive mindset to see the world with expanded lense.
A multi-linguistic
mindset sees the world full of color. Being multi-linguistic is just such
an advantage, and true, it's the trend cross globe. Especially you understand
both letter-based language and symbol based language, then your world is no
longer black & white with a shade of gray, it captures its full color
spectrum, as you learn both logic and synthesis from those language
configurations, it can also be more easier for you to think out of old box, sure,
sometimes you seems feel you are too "marginal" to belong to mono
culture or homogeneous group, or too "grand" to fit in any
traditional box, still, that's the trend in such a digital world without
border, and that's also the trend for future of leadership. .
A multi-linguistic mindset is more multi-faceted to think from different angle. Languages have a huge impact on the way the brain organizes itself to think and express. Language is an art in its own right. Languages have so many different intricacies and facets, which make it difficult to define which aspect is actually the differential aspect which influences thought. Although there’re not so much study to prove being multi-linguistic can make one more creative. Some studies show that learning another language is one of the best ways to keep your brain energized and your thoughts and ideas fresh. The more languages you understand and communicate, the more dots you may have to connect the ideas or world; and the better opportunities you can converge the divergent thoughts and shape the new ideas via transcendent knowledge and insight.
“In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will
love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are
taught." -Baba Dioum This insightful quote could apply
perfectly to multiple languages. It is not only the ability to converse with
another culture that makes multiple languages important, it is the ability to
understand their philosophy and look past the invisible walls that surround us.
How many windows do you have in your mindset?
