InsightofCapabilities

The professional capability maturity assessment is based on the scale and scope of problems you can solve, and the degree of impact you can make on your surroundings, organizations, or our society.

With the increasing pace of changes and abundant information flow, yesterday’s skillset or training perhaps couldn’t fit for solving today’s tough problems.  The reality is that many individuals may practice a profession for many years but have not built a set of core competency, and matured their practices to achieve high professionalism.

So what are crucial professional capabilities they need to develop, which core competencies are crucial to accelerate performance.

Judgmental Intelligence and capability: In this complex world with mixed truth and false, quality information and outdated knowledge, judgment and decision making are often considered together. Many people do wrong things, not because of ignorance, but because of poor judgment, due to the lack of comprehensive knowledge, bias, or preconceived notions. It’s important to become more inclusive and tolerant of the differences; learn how to shape an objective view without cognitive distortion or unconscious biases.

Having discernment is about being free to understand things more comprehensively with contextual intelligence. Context aids us in understanding what’s relevant and what’s not. People gain a clear discernment and develop judgment capability when they explore the mental processes of acquiring new knowledge through thoughts, experiences, and senses, understand others empathetically and knowledge cause-effect logically. People with the power of judgmental capability are the thinkers of consequence, doer of logic, .

Problem-solving capability: The problems facing businesses turn out to be over-complex and difficult to solve. Problem-solving is both art and  science. You need to have deep insight, leverage multidisciplinary knowledge, take a holistic approach to complex problem-solving and build professional capabilities for both defining the right problems and solving them systematically and effectively.

First, assess problems systematically: if the situation is fluid and dynamic, with a lot of inter-dependencies and uncertainty, it calls for holistic thinking and structural processes and practices. A holistic approach works well when deploying, conceiving, and redefining a problem more precisely and solve it more systematically.

Innovation capability & capacity: One of the biggest challenges in this complex digital world with high uncertainty and ambiguity is the fact that we need different perspectives, different knowledge, and different ways to solve many existing and emerging business problems. So it’s important to build innovation capabilities for either individuals or at organizational level.

One of the building blocks of dynamic professional capability are processes for coordination, integration, reconfiguration and paths to a clarified vision and better problem-solving. To develop innovation as the differentiated competency, individuals should practice independent thinking, creative thinking and critical thinking, break down conventional wisdom and explore alternative ways to do things. Companies must go beyond experimenting innovation and commit to taking a systematic scenario to explore innovation in its digital ecosystem for achieving high-value business results.

Due to the complexity of modern society with hyperconnectivity and interdisciplinarity, capabilities move from fixed to dynamic, transactional to transformational, linear to nonlinear to solve more complex problems or thorny issues effectively. The professional capability maturity assessment is based on the scale and scope of problems you can solve, and the degree of impact you can make on your surroundings, organizations, or our society
