International Day of the Girl Celebration

Whether as a little girl or a grown-up girl-like, we all have different life experiences; we all have ineffable stories to tell; we all have great potential to unleash.

The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated on Oct. 11; it is dedicated to promoting girls' rights and addressing the challenges they face around the world. The theme for this year's observance is "Girls' Vision for the Future." This theme emphasizes the importance of listening to girls' voices and supporting their aspirations to create a better future. It also highlights the urgent need for action to ensure that girls can fulfill their potential amidst ongoing globalization.

I traveled around recently, visited quite a lot of nations and large metropolitan cities across Asia, Europe, and North America, met diverse strangers, and felt the different urban rhymes. Ladies of all ages are very active, participating in all sorts of social activities, and professional conference meetings, they took the leadership role in shaping a better society proactively.

There was a female leadership event in Chicago that I couldn’t make this month. When I visited there a couple of months ago, participating in the “Social Innovation Summit” conference,  I chatted with lots of female leaders and professionals and felt they were extremely passionate about how to drive changes and shape a better society. There was an open, magnetic atmosphere, we were all big girls who’d like to make a difference and solve problems innovatively.

Although The International Day of the Girl Child hasn’t created momentum in the US yet, I believe such a celebration aims to

  • Raise Awareness: Focus on critical issues such as better education, equal opportunity, empathetic thought leadership, and global influence.

  • Promote Empowerment: Advocate for girls' empowerment and social innovation

  • emphasizing young girls, and big girls’s potential to become insightful leaders and change-makers in society.

  • Highlight Challenges: Address the challenges that girls face, particularly in contexts of digitalization and globalization

Whether as a little girl or a grown-up girl-like, we all have different life experiences; we all have ineffable stories to tell; we all have great potential to unleash. The observance of the International Day of the Girl Child serves as a reminder that investing in girls is crucial for advancing humanity and building a people-centric global society.  It is a day dedicated not only to recognizing the challenges faced by girls but also to celebrating human potential and advocating for humanity,  encouraging individuals, communities, and governments to take action toward creating a better world.
