Rules as Value Compass

In short, "rules" are not only tools, but also the norms of social behavior and personal cultivation.

Due to the rapidly changing environment, the outdated rules/processes/technology that many organizations are using to create value are becoming inefficient in this rapidly changing world with a high degree of digital convenience.

The word "rules" comes from the Ancient oriental philosophy book "Liezi·Tangwen", which originally refers to tools for correcting circles and squares, and later extends to certain standards, laws, etiquette, etc.

Without rules, you can't make a square or a circle: from "Mencius·Li Lou Shang", Mencius took Li Lou (an ancient strategist) and Lu Ban (an ancient famous crafter) as examples, and believed that even with Li Lou's vision and Lu Ban's skills, you can't draw a standard square or a circle without a compass and a square. It emphasizes the importance of rules in achieving success.

Nuwa (An ancient goddess) held a compass to mend the sky, and Fuxi (an ancient philosopher) held a compass to draw the hexagram. In myths and legends, Nuwa held a compass to refine stones to mend the sky, and Fuxi held a compass to draw the Eight Diagrams. It reflects the cultural connotation that rules represent the order and laws of heaven and earth.

Rules Connotation at the Social Level

-Standards and laws: Rules are the norms of social behavior, such as laws, moral norms, etc., to ensure social order and fairness.

-Tradition and culture: Rules are an important part of traditional culture, reflecting values, such as respecting elders, being honest and trustworthy, etc.

Rules Connotation at the Personal Level

-Proportion and bottom line: Rules are the proportion and bottom line of words and deeds, avoiding excessive behavior, keeping the moral bottom line, and obtaining an open life.

-Character and cultivation: Abiding by rules reflects good character and good cultivation, and helps to establish harmonious interpersonal relationships.

In short, "rules" are not only tools, but also the norms of social behavior and personal cultivation. They are an important part of culture and have a profound impact on social order and personal development.
