Inspiration of "Seek Truth from Facts" in TianJin University

 The scenery was pleasant; it's a campus for nurturing talent and a park filled with inspiration.

After enjoying the cityscape of Tianjin during the day and in the evening, I stepped into Tianjin University to admire Aiwan Lake (The "Night-Loving Lake" on campus. 

Entering the campus, I can feel an atmosphere of change. The school motto, "Seek Truth from Facts," was engraved on a large rock. This emphasizes the educational philosophy and cultural spirit of innovation and rigorous changes. Adhering to its mission of "promoting education and strengthening the nation," Tianjin University cultivates exceptional individuals with a sense of patriotism, a global perspective, an innovative spirit, and practical skills. 

The education philosophy of "Seek Truth from Facts": Tianjin University, founded on October 2, 1895, formerly known as Beiyang University, was China's first modern university. Its founders upheld the philosophy that "self-strengthening begins with cultivating talent, and cultivating talent begins with promoting education."  

Tianjin University offers both undergraduate and preparatory programs, covering disciplines such as law, engineering, and environmental protection. It emphasizes "Chinese learning as the principle, Western learning as the application."

The "Reading Girl" statue: The statue is located by Tianjin University's Aiwan Lake, and depicts a young lady holding a book and seated on a curved stone base. It's known as the "Reading Girl" or "Girl Reading Every Day" sculpture. Donated by an alumnus, it is a landmark on campus, symbolizing youth, the pursuit of knowledge, and the humanistic spirit of the campus. The statue's elegant form is often photographed by Tianjin University students and visitors, embodying the university's philosophy of "seeking truth from facts" and its pursuit of noble ideals.

Inquisitiveness as the core of the Campus Culture: Featuring iconic buildings and cultural activities such as the Ninth Building, the School Motto Stone, and Beiyang Square, the campus emphasizes the self-questioning of teachers and students: "Do you understand? Do you know? Do you dare?" This has shaped the unique "Tianjin University Character."

I had dinner in the university cafeteria, where people could enjoy a rich menu featuring a wide range of cuisines from both northern and southern regions. As night fell, I couldn't see the entire campus, but what I did see left a good impression on the garden-like surroundings and thought-provoking education philosophy.

The scenery was pleasant; it's a campus for nurturing talent and a park filled with inspiration. Tianjin University not only demonstrated a profound history and outstanding cultural traditions, but also consistently shoulders the mission of strengthening principles and disciplines of "fact-based research and encouraging the culture of inquisitiveness. It is one of the important birthplaces of higher education in Asia.
