Three Digital Convergences

Digital convergence accelerates digital flow, improves digital fluency and bridges digital divides

Digitalization is paradoxical, on one side, it is over-complex to create many new divides and uncertainties; on the other side, digital means convergence, connectivity and collaboration. Here are three technological components of digital convergences.

Convergence of Enterprise IT & Consumerization of IT: We are entering the new age-the convergence of enterprise IT and consumerization of IT, Digital customers and employees expect applications to be as intuitive and task-oriented. It’s that consumers and employees are using the same technology devices for similar activities. It represents a merging of corporate and consumer capabilities within the organization. It blurs the line between professional life and personal life, it also transforms the monolithic enterprise IT infrastructure into mosaic digital backbone, and catalyze the new business culture. People can work anytime, anywhere, to access any necessary information to create any innovative idea now with partners outside organization, sustainable innovation means product and service need be improved via continuous conversation and open loop feedback from customers and partners. This digital convergence of devices and services are creating new business models and revenue source as most companies across industries are being forced to become technology companies and run information business.

Analytics Convergence: The convergence of machine learning, artificial intelligence, analytics and business intelligence, statistics & decision science will make direct impact on building an intelligent business. Talent, particularly those in a position where they need a dramatic change to the status quo in enterprise computing, are seeking to exploit the value found in convergence technologies -- advanced analytics, with much more efficient returns, easier to use for entire knowledge workforce, and on any device anytime anywhere. A holistic view on enterprise data has become a core asset for every organization. The convergence of transactional and analytical processes leads through the revolution of in-memory technologies across all computing platforms. The convergent analytics intends to solve such puzzles -Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information? Where is the information we have lost in data?. Analytics helps understand the business, information, and process landscape to consolidate data and generate insight across the enterprise. With this in place, the BI tools of tomorrow will need to integrate with all systems, applications, and data sources,  Innovation in new-generation BI tools will shift towards scenario planning, data discovery, predictive analytics, data integration, connectivity, collaboration, visualization, user interfaces, and interactive capabilities.

Process Convergence: It is important to achieve digital operational excellence via the convergence of unstructured processes and structured processes: The convergence of unstructured text messages with structured process entities will help create user-friendly process management applications handling structured and unstructured processes in a similar manner. Social interactions usually contain messages in a plain text form. Therefore all social interactions containing plain text messages as significant process entities (not just comments, but activities, human tasks, events, assignments etc.) are unstructured. Adding social interactions in the business processes will make them unstructured and unpredictable. The social BPM should handle such hybrid processes effectively.
