New York Libraries with Historical Treasure

From libraries across the city landscapes, we can see the growth potential of people and the hidden potential of the Big Apple.

New York City is famous for its vibrant urban atmosphere, stunning architectural buildings, modern skyscrapers, dynamic people, hustling & bustling streets, fashion aves, open river views, ocean shores, etc.

This time, I was impressed by its public libraries; most are located in elegantly designed architectural buildings.  There are approximately about 220 library branches in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, throughout the City

I visited quite a few of them scattered in the different areas of the city for doing research, reading, and writing, enjoying the quiet environment and academic atmosphere. They all have sufficient capacity and welcome all people to stop by and sit down for learning and growing

The biggest library- Stephen A. Schwarzman Building: The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building is one of the best and the biggest libraries that welcomes people to visit with its great environment and elegant designs.  It’s located in the center of Manhattan, and residents and tourists from all different directions come here to visit and learn.

It has seven floors, there are different categories of books and media on different floors. People can dedicate themselves to their work in a quiet environment. Across the street, there is another building of this library, at which people visit art galleries, and coffee shops and sit down to read in a historic Rose Main Reading Room with antique furniture and exquisite decoration.

New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Lincoln Square: The other day, I stopped by Lincoln Square in the city center; there are different theaters and art institutes spreading across the square. I thought the building I entered was an art gallery, surprisingly, it was a public library;  there was a collection of books and media related to music, dance, and other performance art. Perhaps staff and students in nearby art institutes come here to do their studies frequently.

Brooklyn Public Library – Central Library, Brooklyn: On a sunny day, after I visited the beautiful Brooklyn botanical garden with the blossom rose garden and culture-enriched Brooklyn museum, I arrived at the artistically designed architecture building at the corner of Prospect Street. That was the Brooklyn Central Library. It was a five-floor building with many unique bookshelve layouts at different study halls, people went to the different floors to find their references, learn, and grow dedicatedly.

Bloomingdale Library in the city center: It is a great architectural building located in the center of the city. Most time, it was crowded as so many people wanted to visit it. There was a collection of treasures you could discover, just like going to the museum.

Columbus Library near Hudson River: Long time no see - Hudson River, I strolled over the river bank in the early morning, but it was a bit disappointing as there were constructions going on near Pier 95 and many other sites. So on the way back to the city center, I stopped by the Columbus Library to read for a while.

It was a mid-sized architectural building with two floors. The kids' session was downstairs and the adult session was on the second floor, where people read newspapers, and periodicals or use computers. It has a quiet and visitor-friendly environment with good facilities for meeting the needs of customers.

Queen Library in Flushing, Main Street: When I visited the library on the main street, there was a small exhibition that introduced railway history in the United States with photographs and drawings. Getting inside the reading rooms, lots of students come to study, and many others read newspapers or do their study. It is a mid-sized library, but it’s fully functioning, I guess New York has numerous libraries like this one.

New York has many crowded places and busy streets, libraries are like the islands of our kind in this huge urban city, allowing us to grow, with peace of mind. Most libraries are located in architectural buildings that make us think of history and art galley; next time, I will discover more great libraries with a modern look, inspiring us to think about the future. From libraries across the city landscapes, we can see the growth potential of people and the hidden potential of the Big Apple.
