The OWASP 2024 is an educational conference with enriched content and professional facilitation for IT leaders and professionals to participate in, learn, share, and grow together.
There are quite a few great conferences held in the city center of San Francisco in September, creating an open and friendly urban atmosphere attracting global professionals and visitors worldwide.
In the early morning of late September, I walked across California Avenue toward the Ocean Bay area, heading to the OWASP conference to gain fresh knowledge and have some fun. The conference facilitation organization is very friendly, inviting me to participate in the keynote presentation sessions and exhibitions.
The OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) agenda for 2024 includes a range of topics focused on improving software security, taking AI practices, and addressing current challenges in the multi-industry landscape. Here are some common themes and potential focus areas.
The purposes of OWASP include:
AI and security applications Integration
Emphasizing the integration of AI practices into security services/solutions
Tools and methodologies to automate security checks throughout the development lifecycle.
Resources and frameworks to help teams effectively identify and mitigate potential security threats.
Security Awareness and Training: Initiatives to enhance security awareness among developers, stakeholders, and organizations.
Mobile Security: Focus on mobile application security risks and mitigation strategies.
The key presentations include:
Breaking the Mold: Navigating the Intersection of Technology, Security, and Trust (Keynote)
OWASP Software Assurance Maturity Model (SAMM)
Self-Discovering API Key Permissions and Resources
OWASP AI Exchange experts on the future of security for AI
How to get developers to want to adopt AppSec
The Path to Influence: How Three Threat Modelers Can Influence an Entire Organization
Learning from Past Security Breaches: Strengthening AppSec Efforts and Focus
In the exhibition halls, both exhibitors and visitors were active, exchanging pieces of knowledge, and initiating great Q& A conversations. The software service providers demonstrated their solutions professionally, and participants were eager to learn more and ask questions to get to know more about the best solutions to deal with organizations’ security concerns.
The OWASP 2024 agenda is focused on evolving security challenges, fostering community engagement, and providing resources to improve application security practices. There are quite a few entertainment sessions in the late afternoon, but due to the time limit, I didn’t participate in them. Overall, it’s an educational conference with enriched content and professional facilitation for IT leaders and professionals to participate in, learn, share, and grow together. It also reflected the local open innovation culture in the metropolitan city of San Francisco.
