Contemporary society needs to awaken the ecosystem consciousness, start thinking about better ways to learn, innovate, influence, and cultivate a dynamic continuum with collective human progress.
The digital era upon us represents the next stage of the growth cycle with which people and organizations improve how they work and interact with each other as well as its ecosystem. The beauty of digital is its freshness as either individually, or collectively, we always seek fresh ideas, explore new opportunities, orchestrate mass collaboration and drive collective progress.
Collective consciousness: The world is projected by the brain through the collection of sensations and ideas that we are sensitive to and intrigued by. Consciousness is the quality or state of awareness, or of being aware of an external object or something within oneself; the ability to experience or to feel, wakefulness, having a sense of selfhood, and the executive control system of the mind. Individually, consciousness is basically a state of the ego, the worldly self, to sense or respond to the external environment. Collectively, the organizational consciousness can be gained through information management lifecycle as the massive volumes of data and information need to be refined into insight which drives business decisions and actions. To improve organizational consciousness, whether the assembly of all that data, and the unforeseen analytical capabilities associated with it might one day enable a collective consciousness.
With the state of consciousness or even super consciousness, the experience of the world through the senses and the mind, the various processes of thinking and the different implications of this experience are all offshoots of the consciousness of the Self. The collective sensation is one's perspective, experience, memory, imagination, perception. To reach the state of “superconsciousness,” humans are urged by their inner, rational compulsion to seek higher truth about the being, they attempt to relate him/her with the timeless/spaceless essence of being. It is the ability to tap into the universal consciousness, a state of pure awareness where our mind is completely open to receive new ideas from the collective pool. To effectively respond to the new dynamic, organizations need to awaken the ecosystem consciousness, start thinking about ways to influence their ecosystems and create new revenue streams while becoming more responsive and innovative.
Collective knowledge: Fundamentally, knowledge is the product of the human mind, the power of knowledge can be released only when it’s used to create value and could allow the intellectual organization of the sum total of our collective knowledge. All our knowledge is concept based, means, has its meaning on the strength of our sharing them in our collective consciousness. Though knowledge is power, it doesn’t always inform you of true understanding. It’s also a commodity as outdated knowledge causes miscommunication and ineffective decision-making. Fresh knowledge generates unique insight to keep our world as coherent and consistent as possible. So the healthy cycle of knowledge management involves assimilating the existing knowledge, updating knowledge, creating new knowledge, organizing personal knowledge mastery and collectively engaging with others to reach the next level of knowledge economy.
Knowledge is not an isolated fact, it dislikes isolated events and disconnected details; it must keep flowing and refreshed to generate value. It has always been a generalization of synthesis for keeping knowledge coherent and refined into unique insight to understand various circumstances and intriguing situations. A universal organization and clarification of knowledge and ideas is critical to make a paradigm shift from a silo based industrial economy to knowledge driven creative economy. Thinking of knowledge as the business consciousness and treating knowledge as an intangible asset involves assigning responsibility, improving its reliability, accessibility, and usage.
Collective dialogue (massive individuality vs massive collectivity): Internet becomes an enormous hub to connect diverse mindset, facilitate various dialogues, drive meaningful collaboration; but it also spreads misinformation, causes confusion or conflict. Which principles should be set to motivate desired mass collectivity? What processes need to be optimized to encourage progressiveness, individualism or enforce collective problem-solving? What are trade offs associated with different approaches (massive individuality vs. massive collectivity), and are we reaching the inflection point yet to drive a deep digital transformation based on decades of net activities and internet exploration?
We have millions of issues that need to be dealt with and we seemingly face “insurmountable challenges” to reach the next level of humanity. The primary goal of increasing clarity and understanding of the issue with the assumption that we are working with a stable reality. An interesting dimension to explore is the psychological drivers behind a desire for such massive connectivity, or the resistance to such an existence. Individual contributions often center around “rightness” and being valued for it. In dialogue, one submits one’s best ideas, knowing that other peoples’ reflections will help to improve it rather than screw it up. On the one hand, someone could be richer for all the positive inputs from the collective, but we know that all inputs would not be objectively positive. And what do positive and negative mean in this context? It requires cognitive intelligence to discern and clarify them, and a positive mentality to pick the right things for collective progression. In fact, information/knowledge sharing keeps our mind open. Dialogue is dialogue, it does not necessarily come up with a conclusion. Dialogue calls for temporarily suspending judgments. Dialogue reveals assumptions and biases for reevaluation. Dialogue causes introspection on one’s own position. Dialogue is for opening varying perspectives and sparking creativity.
Modern society needs to awaken the ecosystem consciousness, start thinking about better ways to learn, innovate, influence, and cultivate a dynamic continuum with collective human progress. Real societal advancement is made through the work of collective consciousness, collective knowledge, and collective dialogues/activities, etc, to transcend our modern society into a tremendous living system for growth and invention.
