Innercultureofchange

Culture is often at the root of ineffectiveness and inefficiency you have observed. The top leadership needs to set the tone for culture change.

The digital transformation is now spreading rapidly to enable organizations of all shapes and sizes to reinvent themselves. Today’s digital business environment is dynamic, complex, and uncertain. There are always different complexities at a different time or dimension. Communication, exemplification, and amplification of best practices are all crucial steps in building a culture of change.

Communication: Communication is the coordination mechanism that makes organizations possible and makes a group of people as a cohesive team to achieve more. Ineffective communication causes culture inertia, stifles business performance. Almost every business professional, especially leaders, need to master what to communicate and how to communicate. Organizations are social realities that emerge from the communication patterns of people who work to solve problems collaboratively. The vital business communication should embrace creativity, context, cascade, tailor varying business audiences, and nurture the culture of change. Communication is a means to an end, not the end itself. The end goal is to gain knowledge, make effective decisions or take step-wise actions for solving problems and achieving high-performance results.

Technically, there are different functional dialects, communication styles, and these contexts can shift frequently. Each one of them perhaps plays different personas in participating diverse communications for lubricating friction in change and harnessing seamless collaboration. Change management and strategy management go hand in hand. In order to execute a successful change management process, there is a need to have an honest communication plan in place, delegate roles and responsibilities of the process, clarify the common goals, nurture a change culture, facilitate continuous digital dialog which leads to continuous improvement and continuous journey of digital transformation.

Amplification: Business transformation is inevitable; the emergent digital technologies with a high degree of digital convenience are imposing forces of digital disruptions and change drivers. Large scale business change is usually not an isolated effort in one team or division; it’s a cross-functional collaboration. It is “pushed” by both visible forces and invisible forces, hard forces and soft forces from multiple directions. Thus, to amplify its impact and scale up the best practices, organizations must begin thinking about ways with thoughtful planning to broaden their ecosystem perspective and become highly responsive and flexible for adapting to rapid changes.

Change is inevitable, organizations act as complex and unpredictable systems, amplify or ameliorate the effects of their great change efforts, and deliberately build a dynamic system that keeps evolving. For well-established organizations across the boundaries, change/innovation practices might be different across organizations, the key is “context.” If the best practice you want to adopt is to be implemented in the same context, it could be scaled up across the company, amplify and sustain its impact. Organizations are the hyper-connected and interdependent business entities that are connected to the ever expandable ecosystem as switches. They must begin thinking about ways with strategic planning to amplify their ecosystem influences and adjust the turning potion to make breakthroughs.

ExemplificationLeadership exemplification is important to encourage the culture of learning and change for leading people to grow beyond existing levels of company performance and capability. The transformative changes must dig into the mindset level, overcome “the good enough mindset” or mediocre culture trap. There are those who seek the justification of leadership via virtuous qualities. High-quality digital leaders or professionals are great in altitude, aptitude, and attitude, with a winning mixture composed of intelligence and competence, confidence and humility, self-esteem and emotional excellence.

Organizations today are a huge melting pot of employees with the very characteristics of hyper-diversity. It is imperative to understand that leadership effectiveness manifests respect, caring, and trust-building based on the leader’s vision, inclusiveness, creativity, and insight. In order to become more valuable as an exemplar, authentic leaders need to grow themselves by continuous learning and coaching. By mentoring, they are showing that they value others, break down command-control management style and rejuvenate culture of change. The level of the leadership influence is also dependent on whether they can demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, solve problems innovatively.

Organizational culture is often at the root of ineffectiveness and inefficiency you have observed. The top leadership needs to set the tone for culture change. Today’s companies should have a greater awareness of interconnectivity, intricacies and the systemic value of organizational systems, people dynamics, resource alignment, information fluency, or technological advancement to streamline business flow, innovate culture change and unlock corporate performance coherently.

The effective Change Management approach is logical and iterative, with the goals to build a high-responsive, high-intelligent, and high mature digital organization.

The emergence of potential opportunities for exploring digitization is likely to follow a nonlinear pattern with exponential speed.” Change should be viewed and embraced as a solution and an opportunity, not a problem. The higher the horizon of change is, the higher level of impact and complexity perhaps get involved.

Thus, to explore the emerging horizon, you have to understand what it means to the business and get to know the external changing connected environment, see interrelationships rather than isolated things, understand patterns of changes rather than static “snapshots.''

Change is in small adaptations that tilt scales, but also in big paradigm shifts that rebuild the scales: With unprecedented uncertainty and high velocity, the reality is that there are a lot of things that can go wrong and it is not always easy to identify what is important. Change leaders can provide direction as vision, mission, strategy, as well as leadership skills such as delegation, decision-making, mentoring and monitoring. They can think outside the current constraints and comfort zones, shape a competitive team, raise the courage to pursue it; develop the initial value proposition; determine demand and estimated pipeline, in order to lead progressive change in a consistent and continuous manner.

There are strategic changes and tactical changes; for strategic changes, business executives need to keep their eyes open from signs of things they don’t know about and make the necessary strategic adjustment for adapting to the ever-changing business dynamic. It’s important to define why business improvement is needed, and then, cut through complacency so that business stakeholders understand why it’s necessary to move in a new direction; make a larger strategic investment, clarify well-defined goals, take a stepwise change scenario, and create the synchronization of all functions running seamlessly. Not only do you need to take care of urgent issues that directly intimidate the survival of your organization; but also emphasize those change initiatives that can build the strategic business changeability for leading the organization to the next level of organizational agility and maturity.

The success of the business transformation will depend on the business vision and leadership competency: Change, especially the large scale of change needs to be stretched up in multiple directions. However, the organization has finite resources to apply to get the best yield possible to meet stakeholders’ expectations. It’s important for companies to craft their own version of playbook to focus on doing more with innovation and manage radical changes in a structural way. It takes greater transparency, trust, and collaboration leveraging repeatable process, expectation management and support from C-Level peers, and buy-in from staff to lubricate business relationships and lead change smoothly. The success of any change management effort starts with the leadership mindset, strategy, philosophy, and methodology.

Change is difficult, resistance to change is a natural occurrence that needs to be addressed in a very well thought out change management plan. A big challenge is for the managers to change their own mindset, attitude, and behaviors to allow their teams to do the change that is needed. The inspirational digital leaders need to have cognition, communication, and influencing skills to be able to represent themselves, inspire, persuade and motivate, even drive changes with everyday digital narrative. They are able to invoke further reflections of the focal scope and purpose of changes, and take a logical scenario to build a balanced change portfolio of “improvement-growth-transformation.”

The management is responsible to develop a performance system that enforces accountability with consistency: The digital business objective is to begin to break down silo walls and utilize human potential. People need to be the center of change. The more stakeholders can impact a change capable of affecting their lives seriously, the better chance the change will achieve or exceed the business expectations. Role and responsibility clarification is critical. Leaders need to define who you need to have those responsibilities and talent, forecast the skills and roles you need to navigate the changes driven by digital trends and ensure calculated business results being achieved. They need to determine what's best for each position based on what it will contribute to their overall goals, then go get it.

Accountability is a crucial ingredient in change management formula, it is a part of personal integrity and it goes hand in hand with the delegation of authority or power. Professionals can empower themselves to make one small change to make their daily work environment better, more productive, pleasant, share that experience with others and trust that others will do the same. The management needs to make sure that the individuals have autonomy within their tasks; they will be able to address performance on an equal partnership basis and enhance a healthy feedback-feedforward performance management cycle. Identify and initiate pivotal changes, also make large complex changes gradually, hold people accountable for their decision scenarios and change processes to accelerate the journey of business transformation.

The inevitable range, breadth, depth, and pace of uncontrollable factors acting on any organizations across vertical sectors mean identifying business vulnerability and constant fine-tuning are essential to long-term business prosperity. The effective Change Management approach is logical and iterative, with the goals to build a high-responsive, high-intelligent, and high mature digital organization. Leaders and professionals must be comfortable with “VUCA” reality, broaden their outlook, envision the bigger picture, keep the end in mind, and take step-wise actions to drive change smoothly. Progress is a concept that is not only conceived by humans, but it also applies only to outcomes of human society.

Uncoverserendipity

What’s the correlation between serendipity and innovation, are all innovations serendipitous, or serendipity puzzles can be debunked through thinking innovatively?

From one generation to the next, the substance of leadership does not change, it’s about the future, change, and influence. However, digital leadership trends will continue to emerge.

Here is a set of featured blogs to dig into the “keywords” of the 21st century to brainstorm the future of digital leadership and business transformation.

Uncover Serendipity

InnovationvsSerendipity Serendipity has been voted as one of the most popular words in the English language. It is also one of the hardest to translate. Conversationally, it is used as tantamount to luck, providence or chance. What’s the correlation between serendipity and innovation, are all innovations serendipitous, or serendipity puzzles can be debunked through thinking innovatively?

Uncoverserenpidy Serendipity is -not a lucky accident, it can be planned; worked upon; serendipity can 'reframe' things, trigger perceptual attitudinal, behavioral shifts impressively.

Is Innovation Serendipitous? Serendipity has been voted one of the most popular words in the English language. It is also one of the hardest to translate. Conversationally, it is used as tantamount to luck, providence or chance. Innovation is the light every business pursues now, however, very few organizations have a full set of innovation capabilities, The variety of the innovation research has consistently shown that there is no long-term correlation between the amount of money a company spends on its innovation efforts and its overall financial performance, only a quarter of all respondents indicated that their organizations were highly effective at both generating idea and transform idea into products development projects. Is innovation serendipitous?

InsightofdemystifytheLabyrinthofDigitalTransformation The digital paradigm shift is inevitable. Organizations today need to constantly improve the business and see change as an opportunity while keeping a holistic overview of the organization. Consider digital organizations as the self-organized but interlaced entities, and humans are vehicles of natural and cultural evolution. Digital transformation is “pushed” by both visible forces and invisible forces, hard forces and soft forces from multiple directions. It represents a break from the past, with a high level of impact and complexity. How can you demystify the labyrinth of digital transformation?

Innovativeconnectivity

Being innovative is a way of imagining, of perceiving, of expressing, of inventing, of inspiring, etc.

Innovators present creatively disruptive traits, disrupt old ways, and inspire better ways to do things. They are passionate to connect, to learn, to explore by understanding our commonalities, and appreciating our uniqueness. Being innovative is a growth mindset and a proactive attitude.

You cannot wait for something to happen, keep curious, always think profoundly, learn new things, and acquire new capabilities. It’s important to connect the wider dots, apply an interdisciplinary approach to shape great ideas and management innovation successfully.

Innovation and psychology: Psychologically speaking, all humans are bestowed with three basic instincts which are humility, curiosity, and creativity, and they are intertwined. Curiosity drives us to ask good questions and learn new things. Humility allows us to understand ourselves better by self-reflection and brings egoless awareness of knowledge limitation or the level of competency fluency. Creativity urges us to change and figure out new ways to solve problems. There are many ways to differentiate, there are many ways to pursue innovation, and there is a full emotional cycle behind innovation when you think that every rational thought is linked to emotions and creates a feeling. Innovativeness is a state of mind which is infused with an inner cohesion, emotional wholeness and comes from a vision of uniqueness.

Psychologically, innovativeness is a state of mind that combines restless dissatisfaction with the current state coupled with curiosity or excitement to find innovative solutions that will produce great results. Creativity involves multiple thought processes and complex emotional stimulation. Even though we might all have similar guideposts for our inner wholeness, people have different perceptions and personalities, they might need different emotions to trigger the creative process. The kind of emotions within a person that invokes a creative process can be numerous and most likely will be a combination of emotions! This is an ongoing process just like the feeling to improve and to create.

Innovation and anthropology
: Anthropology presents every aspect of human life and elucidates the cultural traits, complexes, and motives of human behavioral aspects. The workforce today is multigenerational, multicultural, and multi-devicing. Anthropological perspectives open one’s eyes to a spectrum of things with so many different shades and colors of the same world; so people can become more informative and innovative. It helps people connect the wider dots to spark creativity, while creativity will add enriched content and unconventional wisdom to anthropology; as different knowledge domains, they mutually reinforce each other.

By applying anthropological disciplines, people can learn how to work together with harmony and connect the wider dots to spark creativity. Innovation is the only way to drive societal evolution; anthropology helps to open one’s eyes and discover the amazing and fascinating things that human beings have done. It can give people a positive outlook on the world and the idea that human beings are really amazing creatures who can also generate numerous great ideas and roll their imagination into reality. Anthropology expands people’s vision of society, cultural diversity, and human potential, to achieve the art of possibility.

Innovation and biology: Brain is hardware, and the mind is software. The brain is an apparatus, a tool is wired for collective sensation and awareness. A mind is something more personal, with cognitive abilities to generate thoughts continually, functioning smoothly by doing correlations, categorizing, classifying and sorting – multidimensional multimedia correlations to spark innovative thoughts once a while. Everything is energy and the human condition is the conditional form of energy signature; it moves from one conditional state to another, such transcendent energy stimulates imagination and catalyzes creativity.

A mind is the subjective and qualitative aspects of a self-organizing biological system of energy in which it builds models of itself and its environment in order to discover patterns of experience, and wire up to nurture creative thoughts and fresh ideas. To keep the mind growing, knowledge is the “spiritual food” that the human mind needs to absorb, in order to ponder the creation of the new insight which feeds into the consciousness. By deepening biological understanding of mind and thoughts, we can understand the interaction between what is within us and how we project to the exterior world as the bridge to achieving wholeness and what triggers creativity.

Being innovative is a way of imagining, of perceiving, of expressing, of inventing, of inspiring, etc. Creativity is a lonely trip and innovation is a thorny journey, with many bumps and curves, pitfalls and roadblocks on the way. Be dissatisfied with conventional ways to do things, but be grateful for great ideas shared or precious feedback offered. Creativity today asks for a new mindset, a connected world image, global consciousness, and cognitive intelligence, etc. By connecting interdisciplinary dots, the mind becomes an enriched environment in which innovative plants can grow without limit, an innovator can shape great vision and generate great ideas, unique insight all the time. Collectively, innovation makes the world a better place full of creative energy.

Understand via appreciation

It’s time to reflect on the spirit of the holiday, appreciate many things we do -read, think, understand, reflect, practice deliberately; appreciate all good, beauty, and harmonized things at an influential level.

It’s time to celebrate the holiday through “food for thoughts.” Be grateful for wisdom, which are invaluable treasures to warm the heart and touch the mind. Be grateful to understand others and be understood, make deep appreciation through fresh insight.

Appreciation touches all things - it’s from our heart flow into our mind, we can come together in an effective way bringing about change we want to see.

Understand via Appreciation

Innergratitude Mind: Leadership Contemplation It is another Thanksgiving day approaching, regardless of which situation you are in, there’re still plenty of things to thank for, the sunshine, the moonlight, the season of changes and the abundance of information, etc. From a leadership perspective, what’s the breadth and depth of a gratitude mind? And how does it make the positive influence upon your surrounding

Innovate via appreciation It’s time to reflect on the spirit of the holiday, appreciate many things you do -read, think, understand, reflect, practice deliberately; appreciate all good, beauty, and harmonized things at an influential level; appreciate fresh ideas, deep insight; compelling stories, which all bring us something special.

Innerappreciation Appreciate-all good, beauty, harmonized things; from our heart flow-into our mind-connecting in an effective way of-bringing about change, we want to see; appreciate all great things, because of their freshness, intelligence, impact. Appreciation is -an influential thing.

An Authentic Mind: Grace, Appreciation and Your Genius Factor Life is still full of inquiries: Doesn't energy follow the path of least resistance? Doesn't nature tend to leverage the flow while people more often than not endeavor to harness the flow to serve their own ends? Isn't there a very distinct difference between leverage and harness? How that would be a landscape maintained relatively effortlessly, with grace, response-ability, appreciation, and diversity, in order to create an aesthetically pleasing, functional, and thriving legacy of complementary natural living systems. As an individual, who are you, what’s your authentic self, your genius factor, your gracefulness and appreciation of life?

Pervasive Appreciation of Digital Transformation Digital is the new paradigm shift to deeply connect the business nature to the natural ecosystem with very characteristics of hyperconnectivity, nonlinearity, adaptability, unrepeatability, and unpredictability. Digitalization is not just about one-dimensional technology adoption; it has to stretch out in every business dimension. There is a pervasive appreciation throughout the enterprise, particularly the senior management for information abundance, change competency, and innovation fluency.

The blog is a dynamic book flowing with your thoughts; growing through your dedication; sharing your knowledge; conveying your wisdom, and making influence through touching the hearts and connecting the minds across the globe. It’s the journey to amplify diverse voices and deepen digital footprints, and it's the way to harness your innovative spirit.

Innovativeleadershipintelligence

Adaptable leaders are good at developing their leadership intelligence in a consistent manner; shifting from one leadership style to another, but keeping the leadership substance in check.

The digital era is volatile, complex, uncertain and ambiguous, to bridge gaps and lead forward smoothly, organizations today need to discover and develop inclusive and innovative leadership for tomorrow, rather than enhancing “cookie-cutter” leadership today.

Leadership is about direction and progression. Forethoughtful leaders who demonstrate clear vision, unconventional intelligence, innovativeness, are able to drive progressive change, bridge cultural differences and accelerate performance in the nonlinear business dynamic effortlessly.

Intrapersonal Intelligence: It's the high mature leadership intelligence to visualize leadership purpose and convey leadership wisdom: Leadership is not an hour setting job, but a thorny journey that takes accumulated steps and some leapfrogging breakthroughs. Thus, organizational leaders should present self-awareness - know their own strength and weakness; self-reflection- better understand themselves and how knowing who they are and their own style of influence affect how they respond and interact with the surroundings; self-guidance via learning, experiencing & practicing; as well as self-discipline, self-examination and self-governance. The leaders with intrapersonal intelligence may become the symbol of growth.

Further, digital leaders with intrapersonal Intelligence can cultivate a discerning mindset, develop their own language, make the proper framing in order to access the process of understanding issues or each other with profundity, improve cognitive, relational and assertive actions they take on a day to day basis. They are able to inspire others, make better decisions by exploring alternative viewpoints and embracing cross-disciplinary perspectives, drive great ideas forward, develop intrapersonal relationships, enhance intrapersonal communication, and build a high performance team to deliver better results.

Reputational intelligence: In today’s digitized world, how to maintain the quality reputation both in the physical societal environment and internet space will be critical since it directly impacts their corporate competency and brand. The culture and values are at the heart of reputational intelligence, the organization can’t consistently do the right things unless everyone knows what those right things are, and that starts with the leadership team. Hence, the corporate leaders with reputational intelligence will gain the trust, discover the truth, and bring the true value to help the organization thrive for the long run.

Reputational intelligence is crucial because it impacts both the corporate’s bottom line survival and the top line growth potential. When there is a legal or compliance battle, the reputational damage often means that even if the business doesn't get hit with a judgment or other sanction, they still lose. The corporate leaders and management with reputational intelligence are able to set up the guidelines, manage, measure or model risks accordingly and leverage the right tools to predict, prepare for uncertainty and manage risks and compliance effectively.

Philosophical intelligence
: The root of intelligence is philosophy, the leaders with philosophical intelligence may evoke what we call the paradoxical thinking process, involving abstract thinking, seeing both sides of the coin at a multi-dimensional angle, asking insightful questions in order to frame the right problems and solving them smoothly. Corporate leaders with philosophical intelligence can ask big “WHY” questions, abstract the quintessential from complexity, discover the root cause of problems, in order to solve them effectively.

Philosophy can talk about the nature of human beings, talk about the status of other sciences, allowing us to see the culture that impacts our lives and discover the truth and myth of humanity. It contributes to solving problems via interdisciplinary understanding. Philosophy takes on problems of knowing and knowledge, but perhaps its greatest advantage is its ability to "solve" problems elsewhere. The leaders with the philosophical mind can reason the visible, but also perceive the invisible elements of entities; so they can not only solve the problems but more importantly, dissolve them.

Change is the new normal with increasing paces. The adaptable leaders are good at developing their leadership intelligence in a consistent manner; shifting from one leadership style to another, but keeping the leadership substance in check. They can make a profound influence based on their cognitive understanding, unique observation and clear discernments. They present a clarified vision to direct, solid expertise to influence; strong communication skills to facilitate or negotiate, as well as sound judgment and problem-solving competency with a global context to lead transformative changes effortlessly.

Innovategloballeadership

The world has been interwoven through the internet and the latest digital technologies, any leadership role, needs to be better-rounded than to have a title of "logical," “global,” or "creative." Great leaders should be good at all of those characteristics.

The book “12 CIO Personas: The Digital CIO’s Situational Leadership Practices” is the extensive brainstorming and logical content expansion of my book “CIO Master: Unleash the Digital Potential of IT,” to reimagine and reinvent CIO leadership via practicing multitudes of digital influence.

The important thing is that CIOs as the top leadership role must have a strong mindset, a unique personality, and a clear idea of what needs to be done, yet creative enough to not hold the company back from growth. Regardless of which personality they have, digital CIOs need to be both transformational and situational, innovative and tactical, business savvy and technology insightful, communication-effective and operation-efficient.

Innovateviaappreciation

Be grateful for the beautiful world we share together. The natural world is the abundance of variety and a global society is a melting pot of diversity.
It’s time to reflect on the spirit of the holiday, appreciate many things you do -read, think, understand, reflect, practice deliberately; appreciate all good, beauty, and harmonized things at an influential level; appreciate fresh ideas, deep insight; compelling stories, which all bring us something special.

Be grateful for what you understand, because it gives you the confidence to move on: Appreciate things by understanding them. Understand the problem you want to solve; understand the people you get to know; understand the meaning of life. Undemanding leads to appreciation and societal harmony. There are many things you need to understand and there are many ways to understand. When you truly understand, you know the real issues are, you’ll know what you need, and how to get what you need to achieve the “art of possible.”

Take a holiday break to observe deeper and understand better. You learn from the past to "understand" today, and shape a new perspective. By looking back we can understand each other a little more, technically more insightful. It is the responsibility of each individual to examine themselves and to make sure they are open to true understanding. Understanding requires a person's ability to grasp quality information or comprehend fresh knowledge. How deep your understanding is based on the logic, lenses , mindset, philosophy, methodology you leverage to interpret things.

Be grateful for those who can truly understand you: Understanding is a journey; appreciate those who can truly understand you cognitively; appreciate those who can provide you constructive feedback, guidance or support; appreciate those who can listen to you – not only what you say, but why you say and even understand what you didn’t say; Empathetic understanding is the power of understanding and imaginatively entering into another person's feelings, thoughts or attitudes.

True understanding connects the minds and touches the hearts. It's important to understand people deep in the mindset level in order to truly understand “who they are..” Understanding makes people stronger, gives them a voice on conveying their point of view and builds mutual trust and appreciation. It’s important to harness the different experiences, perspectives, and ideas of people, look at the wider aspect around any problem, and dig deeper to diagnose the root causes and solve them thoroughly.

Be grateful when you don’t know something -for it gives you the opportunity to learn: Appreciate learning and innovating; the more you learn, the more you appreciate how little you know. Learning is the process of ever deepening and widening the appreciation; of the challenges of achievement, of the complex nano-scaled signaling involved in thoughts, senses, interactions, movement, healing.

Be grateful if you get the opportunity to learn from your journey of life, either success or failure; If you are humble, you are open to learning both about yourself, others and new ideas, you are not only a good learner, but also on the way to be a good innovator. Take time to reflect, learn or relearn something; take initiatives to learn fresh knowledge or update skills, etc. If what you learn builds a certain degree of confidence; what you don’t know brings you an opportunity to keep growing and maturing, all of which worth your appreciation.

Appreciating the beauty of all you have around you right now and being grateful: Take time for silence; for pondering, for appreciating things you enjoy doing or the work you accomplished. Appreciate the great phenomenon around you - the multitude of points of views, fresh ideas or alternative pool of talent; appreciate the hyper-connected world in which abundance means information flow, natural amazement, or culture enrichment.

Appreciate the abundance which is to have enough to share: resources, time, energy, ideas, creativity, awareness, vitality, etc. Abundance is what keeps us going with a mentality that life is good because all the goodies will be attracted to us because we are upright to attract them. Appreciate the moment of enjoyment or the time of trial or test; appreciate the abundance which is an unlimited pool of goodness that we are born with; however, sometimes we forget that it is a natural part of us.

Be grateful for being who you are, as every life is special and purposeful: If you are unclear about your own value or strength, how can you take a progressive journey? Unless you enjoy the freedom, how can you understand the meaning of life and unless you understand the meaning of life completely, what kind of fulfillment can you aspire for? Be grateful for being who you are; knowing yourself comes from the practice of actively and intentionally being present to relate to, see all the different parts of oneself and how they operate.

Appreciate authenticity, and be true to one's own personality, spirit, or character. Consider authenticity to be a positive outcome of enlightened and informed motivation, appreciate our difference, besides our sameness; no matter where we are or what we do, convey a consistent message. Be grateful for having the ability to produce; with independent spirit and mental balance; the inner security and healthy psychology cycle of creativity, discovery and mastery.

Be grateful for the beautiful world we share together. The natural world is the abundance of variety and a global society is a melting pot of diversity. Appreciation of differences is a global theme as our differences make us strong. By nature, we are curious beings. Share perspectives on things matter for all human beings as we have different lenses-the unique perspectives in the way we look at the world, understand surroundings, and make influences.

Embracing the diversity in one another brings the full circle of the connectedness of mindsets, interdependence of life; uniqueness of enhancement rather than hindrance. Co-shape a holistic globe - a hyper-connected and interdependent world that needs to be planned and thoughtfully renewed to reach such a state of dynamic balance. Renew an organic world - an ecological and adaptive entity via a biological lens with great purpose and varying characteristics to keep evolving. In fact, the collaborative journey of our species has, but only one purpose, to push human society forward.

Show gratitude for something: Appreciation has a creative aspect to it in that value is perceived through being created by the perceptive observer. Be grateful for knowledge sharing and insight uncovering, or anything that can deepen your understanding or delight your surroundings. Appreciation touches all things - it’s from our heart flow into our mind, we can come together in an effective way bringing about change we want to see in the world because we live it in our lives.

We are in the paradigm shift - as our species is at a turning point that requires a significant adjustment in our evolutionary path to consciously discover who we are, and reach the superconscious state of who we could become. For humans to move to higher ground, we must have a different view, but share the common ground as well.

It is the day to be grateful for insight and wisdom, which are invaluable treasures to warm the heart and fresh the mind. Be grateful to understand others and be understood, make deep appreciation through deep insight, leading to a fertile ground in which the success attributes can be planted and collective progress can be made with leapfrogging changes.

Innovativeness

Innovation is about the future, without it, you lose sight of tomorrow.

The “Future of CIO” Blog has reached 5 million page views with 8300+ blog postings in 59+ different categories of leadership, management, strategy, digitalization, change/talent, etc.

The “Digital Master” book series includes 28 books to share insight from the multidimensional digital lens and perceive the multi-faceted impact the digital era upon us is making to businesses and society. The content richness is not for its own sake, but to convey the vision and share the wisdom. Here is the insight of innovation leadership, IT Management, and Talent Management.

Innovativeprogress Modern society is a dynamic continuum with collective human progress. Progress represents upward change, either by individual or group efforts or induced by environmental and cultural tangible and intangible forces to make improvement. Without change, one cannot even stagnate. Whether we can set a progressive tone to make a transition from survival to thriving of our civilization depends on how we make the mind shift to structure shift to behavior shift; make culture shift from exclusive to inclusive; and make innovation from incremental to breakthrough.

Innovateleadership Fundamentally, leadership is about the future and direction - how to steer the organization or society in the right direction. We are shifting from a silo based industrial age with knowledge scarcity to to the hyper-connected digital era with information abundance. Leadership also needs to transform from hierarchical to situational and interdisciplinary; from local to global, establish insight across the boundaries for solving complex problems effectively.

Innovatorpersonas Innovation is about the future, without it, you lose sight of tomorrow. Innovation is an exceptional, exclusive, and realistic idea that separates you from others without a second thought. Innovation can happen anywhere in the organization and its ecosystem. Digital innovation has a broader spectrum, hybrid nature, and deep context. You have to systematically develop the business competency to execute it successfully, and that is something you do not accomplish overnight.

Innovativeinterface With blurred territories and abundant information, the ecosystem is complex and volatile, and the digital era implies hyper-connectivity and interdependence. Either for solving complex business problems or running a successful business, “interface” personas are in demand to bridge multitude of differences, facilitate cross boundary communication, lubricate business relationships, and improve organizational effectiveness and innovativeness.

Innovateboardleadership Due to the “VUCA” new normal, leadership becomes more informative and situational as driving the business forward is extremely difficult. There are many blind spots clouding the vision and there are numerous roadblocks or hidden pitfalls on the way. That means you have to look into an unknown future and attempt to define the landscape with its risks and opportunities, pay attention to the myriad of internal, external, national or global forces that define and influence the way we do business these days.

Blogging is not about writing, but about thinking about the new ideas; it’s not just about WHAT to say, but about WHY to say, and HOW to say it. It reflects the color and shade of your thought patterns, and it indicates the peaks and curves of your thinking waves. Unlike pure entertainment, quality and professional content takes time for digesting, contemplation and engaging, and therefore, it takes time to attract the "hungry minds" and the "deep souls." It’s the journey to amplify diverse voices and deepen digital footprints, and it's the way to harness your innovative spirit.

Innovativenessasastateofmind

Some individuals demonstrate more innovative traits than others such as interdisciplinary skills and knowledge, plasticity (fast learning), openness to experience, tolerance of ambiguity, versatility, intellectual engagement, creative problem-solving.

Innovation is simply about solving problems in alternative ways. There are a variety of cognitive thought processes that go into problem identification as well as solution discovery! Innovators are often unconventional thinkers who can identify hidden patterns, see things differently and do things in a unique way.

Because you need to have the level of curiosity, desire to learn, observe deeply, with the natural ability to maintain an open and inquisitive mind. Innovation requires thinking beyond, as opposed to outside the box, altering or changing the frame of reference to create previously unconsidered solutions.

Positive mentality
: Innovativeness is a state of mind, and innovation implies risk and uncertainty because you need to get out of the comfort zone and experiment with things you’ve never done before. People with positive thinking convey a strong will to make changes and nurture creativity, have a future orientation that makes them more focused on the future goals, and demonstrate resilience to fail over. People who innovate are pro-change and not afraid to challenge conventional understanding of issues; encompass a positive mental attitude which is much broader than trust, empowerment, competitiveness and personal responsibilities.

A good positive chain of thoughts followed by an optimistic attitude and actions enable people to discover their strength, be courageous to take the path that nobody has taken before, focus on opportunities, overcome roadblocks on the way, and increase the chance to innovation success. Positive thinkers are more tolerant to risks or failures as they know they can learn invaluable lessons from it. They are open minded to embrace fresh thoughts or ideas; have the unlimited curiosity to ask questions, show courage to challenge conventional wisdom, connect dots to reframe the problems and solve them innovatively.

Integrative thinking: Integrative thinkers are inclined to seek out alternative views and contradictory data for expanding the thinking box and figure out premium solutions to complex problems. Technically, integrative thinking is defined as the ability to constructively face the tensions of opposing models; instead of choosing one at the expense of the other, generating a creative resolution of the tension in the form of a new model that contains elements of the individual models, but is superior to each. More broadly speaking, integrating the variety of thought processes such as critical reasoning, creative thinking, divergent thinking, or convergent thinking, holistic thinking, or synthesis, etc.

Perhaps integrative thinking is the silver lining with the connected dots to debunk the myth of innovativeness. It is a mental discipline and practice to find a way to reconcile logical and creative thinking without triggering an impaired form of cognitive dissonance. It is a complex cognitive process of integrating logic, intuition, and imagination to develop a holistic continuum for creative problem-solving. It considers the problem as a whole rather than breaking it down; it implies synthesis, not necessarily analysis – binding things up, or integrating fresh ideas into a more holistic solution.

Systematic wisdom:
Systematic understanding indicates knowing the interconnectivity between parts and the whole, enables people to get behind the "surface" validity and provide us deeper insight into the nuances of "why and how." Systems thinking processes enable people to discover hidden patterns, look at the problem from a different angle or understand the issues via multi-disciplinary lenses. It helps them see a larger system with interactive pieces and “conflict” goals; provide the deep insight into the emergent properties, in order to get the scope and dynamism of the problem. Systems understanding builds an interdisciplinary foundation to connect wider dots to spur innovative thinking; as creativity is an outcome of a deep understanding of the patterns of thinking that underlies Systems Thinking.

People may take the easy path, think and work at a superficial level rather than spend the time to understand what is going on underneath. Without deep observation and comprehensive understanding, people simply get stuck in the old way. Thinking systemically actually helps to stimulate creativity by forcing more ingenuity, rigor, and precision into the practice. Innovation is a managed process and unique business competency which are underpinned by varying elements such as people, process, and technology. A systematic innovation management process helps businesses recognize challenges, understand boundaries, and deal with constraints smoothly.

Being innovative is a state of mind – it’s all about how to disrupt the outdated thinking and the old way to do things. Some individuals demonstrate more innovative traits than others such as interdisciplinary skills and knowledge, plasticity (fast learning), openness to experience, tolerance of ambiguity, versatility, intellectual engagement, creative problem-solving. They can apply multidimensional thought processes to see things from different angles, upon thinking profoundly, and upon striking the right balance without any sort of extreme thinking or bias, for shaping a deeper perception to understand complex issues and handle them innovatively.

Understanding Fit

Innercycleofknowledge As we all know knowledge is power. In fact, knowledge as a soft business asset is more intangible, complex, and dynamic compared to the physical asset. Knowledge doesn’t always inform you of true understanding, and it is not an isolated fact but needs to flow and transfer for achieving its business value.

Innatelearningcycle Change is the new normal and knowledge could be outdated sooner than what we thought. Learning becomes a knowledge builder and we can define learning through the information it absorbs and the capability it builds. Learning competency differentiates high potential from mediocre, and it’s the great indicator of people's proficiency and long term professional competency. Learning cycles assume that learning is a process, it’s important to rationalize a healthy learning-unlearning-relearning cycle to keep knowledge fresh and enhance learning agility.

Innovating via Learning Learning is a continuous process and everyone has an enormous capacity to learn and we need to learn continuously in order to adapt to constant change. Today, there are continuous technology led disruptions and convenient, overloaded information, and commodity knowledge only a click away. The division between 'working' and 'learning' is replaced by combining and integrating 'working, thinking and learning.’

Innovationcharacteristics

Surviving and thriving upon exponential growth of information, fierce competitions, and continuous disruptions requires innovativeness, flexibility, interdisciplinarity, and resilience.

Digital is the era of innovation. Being innovative is about overcoming the “we always do things like that” mentality and figuring out different ways to do things. Organizational innovativeness is the unique competency of the business.

Developing people’s innovative mindset and business innovation competency raise different "learning" issues that organizations must deal with smoothly. Businesses today have to make strategic choices all the time about where and when and how they innovate, putting emphasis on identifying, developing the innovative characteristics and building the unique innovation advantage.

Logic: Being innovative is a state of mind. Creativity is an innate process to generate novel ideas. Sometimes, people overly focus on the aha moment effect. In fact, there is lots of learning, understanding and logical reasoning behind creativity. Cognitively, creativity is a complex, multifaceted thought process such as association, perspective shifting, opposites, etc, which involves logical reasoning in it. Logic is the clue thresholding components of great ideas or connecting the interdisciplinary dots to spur innovation. There is mutual reinforcement between creativity and logic. Creativity is often based on unique insight; insight is captured from information, information is based on data, and data can be scrutinized by insightful questions initiated by creative mindset.

We live in an over-complex and informative world, one cannot keep flexing their creative muscle without continuously learning new knowledge, analyzing and reasoning. Collectively, innovation is often the team work, creative individuals need to express their creativity via analytical communication in order to get understood or implement the ideas by following the logical scenario. Businesses need to become more innovative, at the same time, clarify the logic at different stages of innovation management in order to build a set of unique organizational competencies to thrive in the future.

Inclusiveness: Business working environment today is diversified in many aspects such as diversified talent, the mixed bag of old and new technology, the exponential growth of information, the varying management disciplines and practices. Having an inclusive culture always helps people learn from diverse people, engages them to share ideas, as well as transform the best ideas to achieve business value. In the global organization, what about the understanding of cultural competencies in other regions. Inclusion is the very characteristic of a competitive and innovative team in which everyone feels comfortable sharing ideas and thoughts because everyone has a different perspective based on their cognitive difference, different life experiences, and cultural values.

Even though people have different intent, personality traits, working styles, effective inclusion efforts can bridge innovation gaps and build a complementary team to generate creative results regularly. A highly mature digital organization is both high- intelligent and highly-innovative, developing a right organizational culture so that digital savvy people can take ownership to get the work done in their way, and tap their creative potential freely. Cross the industrial boundaries, organizations have grown from looking at diversity & inclusion as a "check-the-box" compliance tool to understanding that having a wide range of opinions and viewpoints contributes directly to both top line business growth in terms of innovation and the bottom line in terms of productivity and profitability. Inclusiveness is a delight.

Coorpetition (corporation + competition):
The very characteristic of innovation is about figuring out alternative ways to do things. When every business or function does exactly the same thing, then innovation soon becomes the commodity. Therefore, do not take the innovation theories or best practices as absolute truth. It’s always important to create your own innovation formulas, encourage idea sharing and coordination. Highly innovative enterprises proactively develop the information-savvy and resource-rich innovation hubs and hyperconnected digital clusters across enterprise ecosystems for enabling idea flow and creating synergy to growth. It’s important to break down the variety of silos and harness cross-functional, industrial, and cultural collaboration and innovation.

Besides fostering collaboration, advocate healthy competition. There are many reasons to compete, and there are many ways to compete. Healthy competition inspires innovation and progression; unprofessional competition protects the status quo. Business leaders should set principles and disciplines to discern the positive motivation or negative energy behind the competition. Healthy competition shouldn’t mean we want to be the same; it means to be authentic and self-aware, either at the individual or organizational level, to tap your creative potential, become the best you can be, and to define your own innovation success formula.

Surviving and thriving upon exponential growth of information, fierce competitions, and continuous disruptions requires innovativeness, flexibility, interdisciplinarity, and resilience. It needs a clear vision to inspire and imagination to spark. The companies who get the most from innovation efforts have the right ambition, good leadership, effective processes, talented people, and open culture, so they can build differentiated innovation competency and drive progressive breakthroughs.

Insightofassumption

The digital paradigm arises out of new knowledge, and the emerging trends reinforce the characteristics of the business such as people-centricity.

Digital is dynamic and uncertain, the challenges that organizations face today include the high velocity of changes, complexity, or uncertainties which could blur our vision and make the future unpredictable. The wrong direction will no doubt lead to the wrong destination.

When trying to determine the macro environment and how the various factors influence business strategic planning and execution one way or another, it is difficult to move away entirely from assumptions. But it’s important to clear logic, update knowledge, do deep analysis, integrate the parts into the whole, in order to steer the business in the right direction and make leapfrog changes.

Assumptions should be thought of as qualified projections rather than the best guess: Nowadays the perspective of change unfolds into a wider multi-dimensionally business continuum, which would perhaps invoke further reflections of the focal scope and purpose of changes. Leaders are all facing pressure to make either strategic or operational decisions every day. The dilemma is that they might never have complete information for decision-making; and sometimes, they need to leverage their gut feeling, make assumptions if making sense, be intelligent with humility, keep the right balance of information & intuition, but be wiser to avoid the same or worst mistake if possible.

As the assumptions are wrong; the conclusions also go wrong. Assumption should be thought of as qualified projections based on reliable information or common sense, eliminating presumption or unconscious bias. It’s important to gain a contextual understanding of things or issues, read between the lines, get to know the past to a certain degree, and predict the future scientifically. Trends and models that work best to meet the business goals are needed. Corporate executives need to be intelligent with humility for setting the vision that is high enough for people to stretch up; but also practical enough for rolling it into reality. They are able to make executable strategic planning, experiment with policies that create a favorable and sustainable outcome consistently.

The good assumptions are based on multidimensional thinking and knowledge-based perception and forecasting: Organizations across industries are facing unprecedented uncertainty and complexity, nothing is certain with the rapid information/knowledge flow, you have to make assumptions or “forecasts,” in a structural way by leveraging multidimensional thought processes and interdisciplinary knowledge. Business leaders today need to see further than what all others see; understand issues from new angles, broaden their perspectives, or deepen their perception by leveraging collective insight; predict what will happen and take steps further, what they should do upon it.

Information is power. Organizations can harness the power of data to provide the business with a more fact-based vision of where to aim and how to get there. In order to make better assumptions or “forecasts,” look at the issues you need to handle from an integral perspective rather than attempting to understand it from a sum of the parts, and understand how the part influences the whole as well as how they fit as a subsystem. Forward-thinking companies leverage information- based analytics to discover patterns, provide business foresight and customer insight about upcoming opportunities or rising trends, so they can adjust their strategy accordingly to keep evolving the rapidly changing business new normal.

To mitigate risks brought by assumptions in strategic planning, it’s important to make dynamic planning:
Planning in a short time and take incremental effort, allowing the acquisition of new information along the way. The emerging business trend is the constructive disruptor for broadening the current business landscape. Be flexible to deal with complexity in a structural way and improve overall manageability. It’s also important to identify external business factors and a structural process that can enable an organization to walk around the externals, supply the framing context in understanding uncertainty, and encourage smart actions with optimism.

To predict is to prepare, stepping into the unfolded future confidently. The forward-looking view is to determine what the future needs to look like and how business leaders can navigate “VUCA” new normal smoothly. Business can be only done on facts and that too objectively assessed while business vision requires forecasting or prediction to a certain degree, but the same needs to be validated at repeated intervals. Stop making wrong assumptions, and put people at the center of changes. Business transformation is worth its weight because of its high impact on optimizing organizational performance and driving the business’s long-term prosperity.

The digital paradigm arises out of new knowledge, and the emerging trends reinforce the characteristics of the business such as people-centricity. In reality, organizations all face fierce competitions and an ambiguous digital environment internally or externally. The art of assumption is to leverage gut feelings for getting some fresh insight of certain things from the future perspective; the science of assumption is to use quality data or information, as well as other cause-effect reasoning for preparing the future smoothly.
