Professional competency is a unique set of capabilities with focus to solve certain problems effectively based on multifaceted intelligence.


In face of abundant knowledge, frequent disruptions and rapid changing dynamic, developing talent and building professional competency should be ongoing practices. Intelligence is the capacity to understand and apply wisdom to the knowledge you are exposed to, improve cognitive understanding, build abilities to decide wisely and solve problems effectively. 

Along with intelligence, accumulated experience, trained skill sets, plus soft elements such as inspiration, motivation, disciplines, persistence, time management, etc, are all crucial to shape differentiated professional capabilities and unlock performance.

Innovativeness & intelligence: Information answers the questions; intelligence questions the answers. Intelligence is based on quality information; genius and intelligence are related to innovation. Innovation has long been considered a solitary activity, to generate or implement ideas. To innovate, you must have the right environment and mental peace - fail, retry and retry until a breakthrough "suddenly" happens. The solitary innovation has been the engine to make human modernization possible, and build more advanced societies.

Due to increasing complexity of innovation, cross-boundary communication and collaboration become more critical in catalyzing innovation. Creative intelligence allows people to think “out of the box,” come up with alternative solutions to prioritized business problems. As innovators are someone who can let their mind "free" of constraints in the environment in which they can stimulate the "invisible" by spurring creativity through a sounding board resonance or vibration. How much further along would innovation go if having co-intelligence and co-innovation groups, perhaps facilitated by those proactive innovators, to develop socially and environmentally sustainable innovations.

Intelligence & decision competency:
Human intelligence with regard to any given type of information is a function of our capacity to recognize and interpret patterns; our consequent ability to use the perceived information to improve decision effectiveness. The mental models through which you understand past experience deeply influence how you imagine the future. People with the right information at the right time can make the right decision timely. Either individually and collaboratively, it’s important to take information –intelligence -decision-making scenarios. So you have the highest probability of getting the best outcome in the state of knowledge accessible at the time of decision.

Decision making in the “VUCA” new normal is often challenging, there are many flavors of decision-making, there are different types of decision makers, and there are many ingredients in decision-making formulas. The whole purpose of analytics is to make better decisions based on data big or small. With decision intelligence, your sense of meaning comes from the entire set of narratives, retrospectives, and perspectives with all of their ambiguity and inconsistency. As you enhance the understanding of the past, new possibilities and interpretations of them emerge in the future, all of those improve professional consciousness to decide wisely and drive desired changes.

Intelligence & problem-solving capability:
Intelligence is a cognitive ability to process information and handle a certain level of complexity. The business value of intelligence will be derived by someone first figuring out what business problem it can solve, a problem that other options cannot. People with what being referred to as highly intelligent have a strong aptitude to understand "complexity" of the given problem in order to solve them effectively.

Many problems are complex because you need to take multidimensional intelligence to both understand the real problem and take the step-wise approach to solve them. Great problem-solvers with perception intelligence are open-minded, learning agile, insightful, and masterful of independent thinking and real critical thinking to analyze and synthesize, integrate different sets of knowledge and fluency across multiple disciplines to solve problems effectively.

Professional competency is a unique set of capabilities with focus to solve certain problems effectively based on multifaceted intelligence. Intelligence needs to become more goal- directed and purposeful, all intelligent activities are planned to reach a self-determined goal. It also involves social competence to help individuals adjust to their environmental surroundings and keep improving their professional competency.
