Innovativeproblemsolving

Ultimately addressing the correct need is what determines the right problem and solves them effectively.

We live in a contemporary society with the very characteristics of hyper-connectivity and interdependence. Problems become complex if things do interact, particularly in the case of nonlinear interaction with un-repetitive activities and behavior. In order to solve problems effectively for surviving and thriving upon exponential growth of information, fierce competitions, and continuous disruptions, it’s important be open minded with a humble attitude, take a structural approach to frame the right problems, apply nonlinear logic, explore innovative solutions.

Framing and reframing: Problems become more complex, even if you have all the different angles to consider, the problem may look very different depending on your perception. The problem seems to be that a lot of the time the problem definition process is not implemented. Problem-framing is a critical stage and it’s worthwhile considering why things are the way they are for, in doing so, you are challenging automatic assumptions that something needs fixing. So we need to have a strong intention to fix the misperception by embracing diverse viewpoints, bringing up an impartial perspective to make sound judgment.

Uncertainty is a state of having limited knowledge in which it is impossible to exactly describe the existing circumstance or articulate the exact problem sometimes. The problem is not uncertainty, rather, it is unpreparedness towards efficient handling of uncertainty. Professional leaders and problem-solvers can dig deeper to ask why those problems happen, why there are differences, realign or reorient thought processes to dig into the root causes, capture insight into unforeseen problems as it arises, frame the right problem to solve and improve overall problem-solving effectiveness.

Nonlinear problem-solving scenario:
Nonlinearity, hyper diversity, fewer rules, and regulations, information exponentiality, unpredictability etc, are all causes of unrepeatability that makes problem-solving challenging. However, there is always a temptation to use simple linear models to understand highly complex or nonlinear scenarios. it’s important to take on a broad open perspective and solve them by “putting them together” seamlessly without creating too many new problems. The nonlinear problem-solving logic comes through different characteristics such as hyper-diversity, volatility, ambiguity, unpredictability, and increased flux. Synthesis needs to follow the analysis, with the problem-solving process to lead holistic problem-solving.

Although not everything is predictable, information is still one of the most important assets of the company for effective problem-solving. While linear analysis helps to break down things to the pieces, it often ignores the interconnectivity between parts and the whole. Solving a problem and optimizing the algorithms often do need to collect a huge amount of data. The more data you collect, the better the results it gets. When it is rational, the whole of all those who participate is greater than the sum of its parts.

Creative problem-solving:
It requires a seamless paradigm shift in thinking from "problem" stickiness and root-cause analysis towards discovering possibilities and creating multiple pathways.  Being creative is about how to solve a problem intelligently and come up with elegant solutions. Creative problem-solvers have the ability to reframe the circumstances or conditions around a problem and solve it creatively. It takes courage to get out of the conventional thinking box, broaden thoughts and connect wider dots for coming up with alternative solutions to tough problems.

To solve a problem implies a wish to make something as perfect as possible. That, in itself, seems to lead to a wish for understanding the wholeness and trigger the combination of emotions to harness creativity. Innovation, the practical application of creativity is essentially about problem-solving at various levels. It is important to get out of the fear that blocks creativity, learn how to liberate imagination and come up with a new approach to problem-solving. Collaborative problem-solving today requires neutrality, flexibility, interdisciplinarity and innovativeness. respect our differences, and become inclusive to spur creativity and co-solve the variety of problems alternatively.

Ultimately addressing the correct need is what determines the right problem and solves them effectively. There are a variety of gaps that need to be bridged for improving problem-solving effectiveness. You can't always wait for the "best" solution to emerge. It is important to experiment, explore, engage, and create multiple pathways to solve problems effectively.
