By having a humble attitude, multidimensional thinking competency, logic and reasoning skills, we can become more objective to make fair decisions and solve problems with less side effects.
When we only want to see things from our own point of view, see what we want to see, or hear what we want to hear, often we miss the point of being objective.
Being objective means making sound judgment: Objectivity is the science we set standard to evaluate, leverage quality information to analyze, and dispassionately examine the facts to overcome bias. Objectivity is an art we try to develop in our personality, a value addition to our character, by which we will be able to handle our life situations without result orientation, fear, anger, stress, worry, anxiety, etc.
As to judgement, it must be based on the best information available, well processed and interpreted accurately. The best we can do for improving objectivity is to be consciously aware that data is filtered and do our best to make sure our filters support thriving.
Being objective is being open and flexible to new ways of thinking and embracing diverse perspectives: To be objective and discover the truth, we must think critically, independently and in an out-of-box way, remove the “old box” shaped by conventional wisdom or group thinking. Critical thinking, system reasoning, and holistic understanding are all crucial to develop and have a better understanding of certain topics or problems that may occur and become more insightful and objective.
The more complex the situation is, the more different approaches and role gaming is needed to reach for in-depth understanding. Being objective is not only a cognitive skill, but also a deep cultural thing. Understanding gap, misbelief, or conventional wisdom, etc, disconnects many things which are supposed to be interconnected and becomes the barrier to objectivity. By practicing heterogenous team setting and collecting constructive feedback, building a culture of objectivity is the way to make us stronger collaboratively.
Being objective is about having emotional excellence to address ignorance and assumption: Being objective means we are not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or preference, but make judgment or decisions based on unbiased fact, dispassionate examination, and deep observation. Without the inner balance of energies, we cannot achieve a perfect balance of emotions and logic for observing deeply, understanding things comprehensively, and analyzing problems objectively.
A mind with emotional excellence can address ignorance, overcome bias and clarify assumptions. No one is absolutely objective. Be objective without being too judgmental. People with emotional excellence are able to communicate effectively, seek out updated information and relevant knowledge, gain empathetic understanding and practice independent thinking to break down conventional wisdom and make sound judgment.
We are all formed by our lives, the education we receive; the media we follow, the people we meet, the experiences that we have, and the life lessons we learned. But still, by having a humble attitude, multidimensional thinking competency, logic and reasoning skills, we can become more objective to make fair decisions and solve problems with less side effects.
