Innovation

Variety, hyper-connectivity, diversification increase innovation intensity and expand the ever-evolving digital innovation ecosystem.

Being innovative is all about disrupting outdated thinking and old ways to do things, such as silo, dysfunction, complication, rigidity, etc, and pursuing an alternative way to solve problems. Either individually and collectively, there is no template that you can apply and suddenly become innovative, it must be done continually. 

Being innovative is a state of mind, an ability to identify patterns or make unusual connections, to generate novel ideas, with capacity to adapt to the changing circumstances, and reinvent the business to get digital ready.

Innovation & Affection: Innovation is about exploring alternative ways to think and do things. Creativity needs vision to inspire and imagination to spark. Innovative leaders show affection, giving freedom to employees for self-discovery, encourage them to make constructive criticism, do something new to spur creativity, and take initiatives to catalyze innovation. Affectionate leaders know what their people need and when they need it; nurture a learning environment in which people can update knowledge, share fresh ideas, and build a highly innovative organization.

Flexibility enhances innovation as long as flexibility is provided with necessary oversight by the management. An affectionate leader who encourages innovation, first of all, should allow an innovator to bend the rules as long as it is not harmful to the organization, and take alternative paths to solve problems innovatively. They present abilities to inspire employees to take risks, tolerate mistakes, take courage to explore emerging opportunities, experiment with creative ways to do things consistently.

Innovation & Vulnerability: Innovativeness has paradoxical traits. You need to be vulnerable to hearing the ideas challenged from a viewpoint different from your own. You need to be strong and resilient to fail over. We are all vulnerable at certain points. In the spirit of “being innovative," it is imperative that we are willing to seek out help and collaboration as we work to generate new ideas or solve problems alternatively. The vulnerability is key to collaborative innovation!

Creativity happens at the intersection of consciousness and subconsciousness; knowledge and insight. Innovation happens at the intersection of people and process, process and technology. It can be difficult to show a willingness to be vulnerable and admit that we may not know all of the answers. Vulnerability, generosity, respecting differences and a willingness to have ideas challenged seem to be in short supply in the innovation woods! Ultimately, being vulnerable is not a sign of weakness but rather an open door to illustrate the value of sharing the power of diverse perspectives to shape a new idea or solution.
