Implicitlogic

The business system is complex, the organization and society are contextual today, opportunities and threats cannot exist without a context of interactions, which constitutes an implicit system.

Logic is the hidden clue of meaningful things, cause-effect relationships of complex situations, sequence & consequence of problem-solving. It is a logically constructed mind that is imposed on us and defines our way of thinking and acting.

By logic, it’s not necessarily mean a system of logic such as formal logic, there are also implicit logic, intuitive logic, or analogous logic, etc. Leaders and professionals with implicit logic are insightful, situational, and committed in order to contribute to make sound judgment and solve problems thoroughly.

Implicit logic enables us to see “invisible,” uncover connectivity and interdependence between things: There are visible and invisible things co-existing in the world; from business perspective, there are both hard and soft success factors; people, process, and technology are tangible; however, culture, communication, or leadership, etc, are often intangible. In fact, much of our knowledge is implicit as well. Thus, implicit logic enables people to see things underneath, perceive the invisible behind the visible, catch “implicit” knowledge, to dig into the root cause of issues, connect unusual dots, abstract unconventional wisdom and solve problems holistically.

From the evolutionary lens of human society, opportunities and threats cannot exist without a context of interactions, which constitutes an implicit system with both visible and invisible elements. Implicit knowledge is adaptive, creates schemes and automatic reactions that are necessary for survival. Thus, business professionals today need to filter information intellectually, develop their set of implicit knowledge, recognize connections and interdependencies of tangible or intangible things, and gain an in-depth understanding of cause and effect in order to solve complex problems without causing too many side effects.

Implicit logic based on pattern language allows people to express deeper wisdom and brings aliveness within a particular set of human endeavors: There are patterns hidden in many meaningful things. Pattern discovery is a cognitive ability to be creative and logical for either designing or solving problems smoothly. A pattern language is about the relationships between patterns. The patterns are grouped and sometimes pathed within an area of expertise. Thus, knowledge is critical to enhance pattern based implicit logic, which allows people without extensive experience to pick up the pattern language and sometimes solve problems in unsurprisingly wise ways.

The pattern language tells you how one pattern "leads to" another, in the same way that one clause in a natural language might lead to another. You need to decide how to apply that language to articulate a set of problems and solutions without misinterpretation. Learn what makes a good pattern good so you can derive your own solutions in each new situation by applying pattern-based implicit logic scientifically. You can navigate from patterns to patterns to learn about a problem space and to apply different solutions in combination to reach higher than expected performance.

Implicit logic based on tacit knowledge helps to understand a specific group of people’s common senses, social behaviors, culture background anthropologically:
We live in a diverse world, with a variety of historical roots, culture heritages, knowledge enrichment, religious beliefs, etc. Common Sense is specific to the knowledge needed and shared with a specific social group. All the implicit knowledge of a particular social and cultural environment belongs to common sense. Many of these are tacit knowledge and their communication permeation or behavioral assimilation is given by the daily use that the individual and others in his/her environment make of that knowledge. Some of them are local right, but globally wrong. Implicit logic based on such tacit knowledge enable us to diagnose a certain set of problems in that particular group, helps them expand their perspectives by cross-group sharing and brainstorming, so people can become more proactive and insightful to break down conventional understanding, solve their own problems at the mindset level thoroughly.

Nowadays, cross boundary interactions become the new normal as geographical, functional, or industrial territories are blurred. So common sense becomes not so common. Thus, to clarify implicit logic, people continue to weigh evidence, analyze and take measurements to ponder: "What 'should' I believe?" The better-framed question is "What Do I Want to Believe?" “Does common sense truly make sense?” Are common senses compatible between different groups nationally or globally? If people lack independent thinking or critical thinking skills, they may still lack common sense-based implicit logic. The greater the knowledge of the systems in which one lives, a correct inference to be made from the use of common sense for solving problems effortlessly.

The business system is complex, the organization and society are contextual today, opportunities and threats cannot exist without a context of interactions, which constitutes an implicit system. The true critical thinkers with strong implicit logic skills are able to identify connectivity, discover patterns, see through invisibles, catch “implicit” elements, criticize common sense or conventional wisdom, bridge cross-disciplinary differences in order to make sound judgment and improve problem-solving effectiveness and efficiency.
