Innovativeproblemsolving

It is important to experiment, explore, and encourage a better way to understand tough issues and deal with them in an innovative manner.

Due to the “VUCA” characteristics of the business new normal, business problems become more complex than ever. Innovative problem-solving is about how to think differently, unconventionally, or from a new perspective for either defining or solving problems effectively.

 It is important to apply creativity in a recursive way for effective problem-solving by experimenting, exploring, and encouraging a new way to understand tough issues and come up with alternative solutions in an innovative manner.


The more complex the problem is, the more important it is to apply paradoxical logic to come up with a holistic solution: The problems become more complex, there is the reason behind every cause. Only after extensive observation, can you gather adequate data and do deep analysis. From a complex problem solving perspective, understanding context is often the first and the most important step in truly understanding problems. Some get into it, some do not. One makes things simple when one brings people to understand them. Externally simple is directly proportional to internally complex. Premium solution does not make anything complex, it is a process to simplify.

The world becomes more paradoxical; it is full of contradictions. Sometimes people confuse paradoxical with controversial; but to dig deeper; being controversial seams indicate inconsistency or illogic- why do you agree with something, but disagree it later or you behave the opposite, etc. On the other side, being paradoxical is about understanding and agreeing with the complementary traits of things; Technically, the way to resolve any paradox is to go up from the physical to the conceptual and conversational domain, always constructive; getting simple answers out of that paradox could be the motive of some people to solve problems holistically. Striking the right balance is a leverage for in-depth understanding of economic and social systems and solving complex problems systematically.

Never think there is a short list of solutions you can pick from, and always be flexible to solving the problem in an alternative or better way:
We live in the age with information abundance, knowledge is power. Now we may ask if we have a problem where its solution might come from abundant data and that solution would give us competitive or comparative advantages. To avoid being overwhelmed by the complexity of issues and overcome problem-solving fatigue or impasse, organizations need to cultivate a culture of flexibility and take great opportunities for solving crucial problems by prioritizing and innovating appropriately.

A solution is vague or temporary if the problem is not perceived comprehensively in order to solve it flexibly. People can be rational. Psychologically, being flexible is simply an ability to learn and adapt to changes, to explore new possibilities. See the world through the open mind and shape your eyes.  A flexible mind loves choices, feels comfortable to be unique and innovative, enjoys making differences; and welcomes the diversity of thoughts as a fountain of creativity, in actively seeking feedback on improving problem-solving effectiveness and innovativeness.

People who can solve problems in a new way are innovators:
In an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, the problems become over-complex and interconnected. Thinking creatively about a problem requires being close to the problem, seeing things from different angles to gain different perspectives, understanding context and intangible variables. What seems to mark those problem solving masters out from others is their ability to frame problems, manage decision options as well as turn them into potential opportunities, tangible outcomes, and inspirational changes.

To be a great problem-solver, an individual's attitudes and beliefs are all valid within the context of his or her personal experience. You have to keep updating knowledge, create new knowledge and become the knowledge value creator. Take people through new experiences, expose them to additional "data" through those experiences, and do that very purposefully. In fact, the digital workforce today has to learn and relearn all the time and then apply those lessons to succeed in new situations for improving problem-solving effectiveness. It will create the opportunity to shift people’s mindsets, attitudes, beliefs, that ultimately cultivate their problem-solving capabilities and high professionalism. Each of these capabilities may be combined in different fashions to yield multiple competencies, so they can become a sophisticated problem solver and an effective influencer.

The digital era upon us is about hyper-connectivity and interdependence. There are no isolated problems, more often than not, you have to deal with the chain of related problems. You can't always wait for the "best" solution to emerge. It is important to experiment, explore, and encourage a better way to understand tough issues and deal with them in an innovative manner. It's a strategic imperative to cultivate a new generation of innovative problem solvers and build a solution-driven, flexible and highly effective organization.
