Change unfolds into a wider multi-dimensionally systemic continuum.
Business leaders today need to envision the future of business and craft a good enough strategy to sustain their vision and reach the destination smoothly.
Clarifying vision via identifying the blind spots and knowing when to drive straight, and when to take the turn: Most individuals or teams operate with an incomplete and relatively small view of the world. There are limitations upon understanding complex things in a holistic way. Too often in an effort to keep moving forward, they jump to the wrong conclusions. To identify and close blind spots, you have to be humble to realize there are many things you know you don’t know and perhaps even more which you don't know what you don't know. Observe deeper and ask questions. Until that happens, you will continue in the lives of blindness.
From a business management perspective, silo mentalities block the vision, and will create numerous blind spots in talent, resources, process, capacity, and capability. You need to listen, ask questions, see around the corner and look beneath the surface, and pursue collective wisdom, accept, and act on the blind spot. Wait to see if things play out, know when to drive straight, and when to take the turn, apply urgency after testing. To sustain the vision, multiple ideas need to be taken, and a cohesive plan needs to be built. It allows the individual to take some personal ownership of what is about to occur. It’s important to apply feedback from past experience to future actions.
Realizing the vision via identifying your core capabilities, and hone them into differentiated competency: Vision inspires, strategy helps to realize the vision, and capabilities underpin the business strategy. Identify capability gaps to achieve goals; also compare your set of capabilities with competitors' to ensure that it is developing differentiated capabilities to gain unique competency. For business professionals, capability is something deeper that empowers or boosts skills; but skills, certificates, experiences, etc. are just some subcomponents to build a certain level of capability or competency. Either individually or collectively, discover your authenticity, innate talent, and how you can build professional capabilities via diversifications of skillset, and also have the dedication to sharpening them through.
For business management, identify and build a set of differentiated competency. It is not necessary to reinvent the wheel in building capabilities; it is more crucial to build the dynamic capabilities via those existing building blocks or recombine those existing capabilities into the more sophisticated capabilities for complex problem-solving. The visionary view can inspire and motivate by identifying business values and helping the business implement them; help people and companies navigate through difficult changes and achieve their goals smoothly. And a truly innovative story of the future can literally revolutionize a culture of creativity and realize business vision effortlessly. Working hard is really working smarter, with the right mindset and attitude!
Vision is the visual interpretation of your finest dream of, or what you desire to become by identifying the gaps that you are facing or will be facing tomorrow: The future state is very fluid, it can be defined in the present moment but will change while we are trying to reach it. Vision is the perception of a destination of the journey you want to embark on, but you would need strategy and knowledge to implement it. The information-driven forecast can complement the vision, also helps to clarify what the possible outcomes of making a certain choice are, as well as how to handle different problem-solving scenarios, etc.
Vision is your point on the horizon, the strategy is how you will get there. Some visions are tunnel-like, other visions are short-sighted; but the best digital vision should be circular and foresighted, inspiring and reachable. Leadership vision is to be a guiding light and show the direction. Setting a vision that isn't high enough doesn't challenge the organization to excel. But establishing a vision that is based on unrealistic expectations will discount the value of even creating the vision. Visionary leaders can see connections, perceive the new paradigm, and predict the trend. They are like guiding light to lead the organization in the right direction, dare to take calculated risks for overcoming challenges, developing the human capital in terms of capacity building and adapting to the dynamism of the frequent technological or turbulent socio-economic trend.
Change unfolds into a wider multi-dimensionally systemic continuum. There is the friction to changes, but over the long haul, everyone from the top down sees the benefits. Vision is an integral part of leadership because the essence of leadership is to guide direction via removing the obstacles or breaking down the outdated things either hard or soft, visible or invisible, in order to lead forward.
