Synthesis

In the emerging digital world, convergence is the new trend, synthetic thinking reconnects the dots cross-disciplinary, cross-function, cross-culture, and cross-generation.

Synthesis is simply about “putting things together” - a procedure to combine separate elements or components in order to form a coherent whole (put together, combine, integrate). Analysis is the pre-phase of synthesis, synthesis is the goal of analysis.

Synthesis is natural digital thinking for hyperconnectivity, to put things together to imagine “the art of possible”: It makes the combination of components or elements to form a connected whole. Synthesis merges a dichotomy or in other words, the “for” and “against” perspectives, incorporating thesis and antithesis into a higher level of understanding where you synthesize and where both perspectives are incorporated. Synthesizing problem-solvers are future-oriented and optimistic, perceiving “what could be.” Envisioning the larger picture is a critical aspect to understand the best next moves and shape a brighter future by driving desired changes.

Synthesis answers the ‘why’ and ‘what for’ questions in problem-solving:
The matter is that the dynamic digital new normal needs to get away from letting things fall through and start practicing synthesis to solve problems alternatively. Synthesizing problem-solvers are good at creating business synergy by blending different pieces of information in such a way that the emergent whole is somehow more than the sum of parts. When lacking a synthesizing lens, many think they are problem-solvers, in fact, they do solve certain pieces of problems. However, when understanding the larger problem via synthesizing lenses, sometimes, they are actually the problem in other situations, and even cause larger problems.

Synthesis is a natural digital thinking for hyper-connectivity, to put things together to imagine “the art of possible”: Synthesis is the process of assembling those individual pieces in different ways to give you a sense of “what can be,” and based on that select “what should be,” and make the combination of components or elements to form a connected whole. Synthetic thinking makes business as a whole better than the sum of pieces; it also makes human society harmonized with nature.

Industry society was good at creating and managing silos in the 20th century; however, in the emerging digital world, convergence is the new trend, synthetic thinking well reconnects the dots cross-discipline, cross-function, cross-culture, and cross-generation.
