understanding

It is the responsibility of each individual to examine themselves and to make sure they are open to true understanding.

Understanding has happened to humans, which is a reflection of the intellect that has evolved. Our mind is a complex system of complex systems and many of them are very difficult to understand and grasp. We shape our thinking and the way we perceive and know things.

The most important capability of the cognitive mind is the willingness and ability to seek out knowledge, gain an in-depth understanding, address our ignorance and assumptions we make to minimize it.

Understanding requires a person's ability to grasp or comprehend information: How deep your understanding is based on the logic, lenses, philosophy, mindset, methodology you leverage to interpret things. Assumptions and prejudices are due to a lack of deeper understanding. Often people follow conventional wisdom or others' opinions, get stuck at the level of content understanding, explain things based on the linguistic meaning or make observations on the surface level. They are constrained by the little box in which they are familiar with or just follow other people’s explanation without thinking further or digging deeper. True understanding is contextual, requiring our abilities to digest information, grasp insight by digging deeper, to touch the thought processes and read between the lines.

Lack of understanding leads to “fixing the symptom, not the root cause” syndrome: To survive in today’s digital new normal - velocity, complexity, uncertainty, and ambiguity, the in-depth understanding of either problem you intend to solve or the people you try to get to know have become an important quality for digital leaders and professionals. Apply the “WHY” staircase technique many times over, using a structured methodology to get to the heart of the matter or the nature of human effects. When you truly understand, you know the real issues are, you’ll know what you need, and how to get what you need to fix them.

Nonlinear logic enhances systems understanding: In today's digital world, logic is often nonlinear and multidimensional. To gain an in-depth understanding requires an understanding of how the things have come together, “being built”; helps people become aware of the other "systems" that they interact with and the relationships between these systems. What is the bigger picture here? How is your current problem/goal related to the bigger problems or greater context? Having a system understanding enables you to avoid tunnel vision, keeps an open mind to explore new possibilities because the best business solution based on the systems thinking is the one that responds perfectly to its dynamic environment.

When you truly understand, you know the real issues are, you’ll know what you need, and how to get what you need to achieve the “art of possible.” It is the responsibility of each individual to examine themselves and to make sure they are open to true understanding.
