Compared to the previous eras with information scarcity and silo setting, the fast-paced changes and overwhelming growth of information today bring both significant opportunities for business growth and unprecedented risks organizations have to face. Leadership becomes more open, interdisciplinary, and profound. It implies the high level of intellectual and emotional maturity, strategic foresight, decision wisdom, and problem-solving effectiveness.





Leadership innovation: Innovative leaders have interdisciplinary knowledge and cross-functional experience to inspire team members thinking independently and solving problems creatively by developing a portfolio of new ideas, concepts, and scenarios. They inspire, create, and maintain the social and psychological conditions and the environment in which everyone is able to reach his or her highest potential.

Since innovation is fundamentally about challenging common beliefs or breaking assumptions, having more assumptions uncovered will lead to greater innovation. In the global scope, understanding the values of audience will facilitate your ability to develop empathy, inclusiveness, cohesion, and strategic alliance across boundaries, to amplify leadership impact.

Leadership profundity: Profundity is the essential trait of influential leaders who are able to discover patterns underneath, look around the corner, to gain deep insight of issues they intend to solve. Leadership without profundity is just like a tree without a root. A profound mind is deep, sophisticated, "read between the lines," "listen to what is not being said," and understand things underneath the surface. Leadership profundity and wisdom have to be enforced by practicing multidimensional thinking, such as critical thinking, strategic thinking, innovative thinking, holistic thinking, etc, to make sound judgment. 

Profundity is important to connect the mind, unify the difference, demonstrate better perception to be a good communicator and leadership influencer. Generally speaking, an effective global leader must be a strategic visionary to lead global progress, apply multiple thinking processes to deal with varying situations wisely. Being profound implies sound judgment and clear discernment; being clear about his/her responsibility; being able to explore a complex problem from multiple perspectives, being flexible to take alternative paths; being thoughtful to handle tough issues step-wisely; being forethoughtful to prevent risks or avoid pitfalls on the way, etc, for orchestrating collective progress effectively.

Leadership agility
: With abundant information and a shortened knowledge cycle, influence and resources need to be in the leadership toolbox. It is important for leaders to be open-minded, resourceful, and keep updating information and knowledge for framing the right problems and solving them effectively. Leaders with learning agility are comfortable with change, take risks, learn from mistakes, continuously seek new challenges, solicit direct feedback, self-reflect, self-motivated, and get the work done resourcefully.

We live in a global society with enriched knowledge and diversity of talent. As a global leader, you need to keep learning agile, embrace diverse viewpoints, have a thorough understanding of the various perspectives and shape into world class insight. The variety of perspectives opens our mind, and harnesses the values that each of us can bring to the table. There's time to strengthen new established chains of fitting mindsets, starting at the top leadership mindset level. The long-lasting brightness needs to be charged with knowledge, innovation, intelligence, and wisdom to deepen leadership influence.

Leadership in the coming decade will need to be more open-minded and distributed, as the command-and-control style that has dominated the twentieth century gradually lost its steam due to blurred territories and rapid change. The world-class leaders can connect global dots to drive change and inspire innovation. It is nice to have the right dose of charisma or unique style & practice if it can enhance your leadership effectiveness, complement your leadership substance, and deepen your leadership influence.
