A well-defined set of digital principles are not for limiting human potential, but for setting the frame of relevance and guide through changes and digital transformation.

Principles are general rules and guidance to instruct decision-making, actions, or problem-solving. In the organizational setting, principles are certainly there to guide the organization for long term prosperity by enhancing organizational governance disciplines.

Comprehension: Principles are not statements only, there is philosophy in it. To really add value, principles need to be grounded in the context of the organization expressing them. The organizational governance and management teams should work closely to clarify: Why shall you hold this principle? How does it fit with the mission and objectives? What does the principle mean in concrete terms to the organization? How much do you live up to it? The rational characteristics of principle clarify “why,” “what,” in regards to purpose, statement, and method of principle to fit with the organizational vision and mission. Principles that are not just known and understood, but deeply embedded into the organizational culture are incredibly invaluable to shape fitting mindsets and guide desired behaviors.

Customization: Principles set guidelines for people to follow. Principle is both abstract and customized, depending on the scope of its usage. If our society has a set of common principles to keep a healthy cycle of stability- changes-stability. Different organizations or communities can set their versions of customized rules for ensuring organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and agility. As different organizations adapt to progressive change with varying speed, it is important to develop your own company tailored principles to inspire a fitting mindset, motivate positive attitude and good behaviors, and generate winning concepts for business transformation on a consistent basis. It allows many people to make their own decisions individually, moving forward in the same direction to meet the same objectives in a rapid manner for ensuring organizational matuirty.

Coherence
: Principles are statements of belief that reflect the values, culture and real-world concerns of the organization. In fact, the principle is philosophy, based on your business value and strategy. Business principles, purposes, and progress are interrelated with each other, and need to be coherent to guide business changes. The principles set by senior leadership to make decisions should be consistently applied by an organization, allowing all -from top-down within the organization to make decisions coherently, think or act consistently to accelerate business speed. Clearly defined principles with specific expected behaviors by top management provides a coherent framework in which the organizations operate (strategy, structure, people, processes and rewards) that improve business management effectiveness and governance maturity.

Corporate principles help societies, organizations, communities agree on what they will do in concert and equally important, what they won't do. If you were to truly live up to this principle then who and what would need to change?
