We need more people to think unconventionally, doubt common beliefs, pursuing truth, objective reality, and wisdom.

Every individual is a unique human being; the world we live in is complex and diversified, we are born to experience the world; and everyone is entitled to their interpretation of the world. One valid assessment of that interpretation is what individual life it creates for the person who holds it. 

Does that perception of the world enable the person to be positive, healthy, balanced, and a productive contributor in contemporary society? Or does it make one unable to adapt, and embrace the variety of viewpoints? How to make people become more open-minded, innovative and influential? How can we push towards the next stage of evolution that enables the large collective of people in our societies to think in a more advanced way; communicate empathetically, unleash collective potential and work harmoniously to achieve common vision?

Unlimited potential
: Human potential is singular as well as plural to generate creative aura or develop an open atmosphere. There is abundant human potential; we all have creative potential and intrinsic ability to think outside of the box and come up with novel ideas by connecting unusual dots. However, it’s the individual, culture, circumstances, and society that sets a limit on people’s mentality to tap into it. Individuals need to step outside the box and challenge perception, push themselves to their limit by exploring varying possibilities, being original and adventurous. As a society, we need to respect and encourage change, difference, and uniqueness.

The discovery of the unlimited variants of human potential opens a new window in our psyche to dormant attributes we didn’t know existed. The great way to go on discovering potentiality is by following our insights, intuitions, and imagination while at the same time keeping our feet firmly on the ground. Innate talent matters, knowledge matters, attitude matters, and an encouraging environment matters, all of which play a role in exploring the art of possibility in us. Through such a self-discovery journey, we can gain enriched life experience and become more confident and competent human beings.

Unconventional thinking: With rapid change and abundant information, knowledge needs to be updated sooner than what you thought of, conventional wisdom usually has a negative connotation about sticking to the outdated concepts, traditions, or the old ways to do things. So conventional thinking should be upgraded to fit for the contemporary society we live in. Otherwise, with being called conventional wisdom, organizations or the society keep nurturing mediocrity and unrealistically keep expecting innovation out of that mediocrity. That causes confusion and societal stagnation. To gain “unconventional understanding” of things, put aside all those trained thoughts, logic, systems and boxes, and fill in the updated knowledge. Learning, critical thinking, creativity will come from all of the knowledge workforce that gradually moves towards the creative economy.

Practicing unconventional thinking takes a certain psychological and conditional chemistry to break away from thoughts that others have thought about or conventional wisdom. Courage, persistence and determination are all great psychological factors to practice unconventional thinking. It is a necessary step to expand the thinking boxes, and spur creativity for making true progress. Individually, an innovative mind should practice unconventional thinking, see things differently and do things in a different way. Collectively, in the organizations, to break through outdated concepts or “we always do things like that” mentality, it’s critical to encourage free thinking and experimenting, have the right dose of creative tension to discover more hotspots of innovation, unify the best of the best, and build the culture of creativity.

Unusual options
: In the industrial era with silo setting and knowledge scarcity, efficiency and standardization is the tone to run business; thanks to the emerging digital technologies which bring unprecedented convenience, the digital era upon us is the era of empathy, choices, collaborations, and personalization. People-centric businesses are fluid, flexible, and intelligent in knitting all necessary elements together into great customer experience and drive a seamless paradigm shift. The beauty of pursuing “unusual options” is about envisioning and enabling, providing customers with choice, and delight them with personalized products/services.

More often than now, many innovative solutions to intriguing problems are made from a much broader and encompassing view that is not possible in conventional thinking. It means you have to connect unusual dots all the time, discover patterns skillfully. It means to never think there is a short list of solutions you can pick from, and always be open to solving the problem in an alternative or better way. The choice assessments are really about ascertaining the "current state," a snapshot of where they are at that moment of time. Consumers make choices to pick personalized products/services for fitting their life styles or professional development. Organizations study the choices for decision-making, and select the unusual choice which is based on long term vision and unique competency to gain business advantage.

The world is changing with increasing paces, and we are proud to be part of it. We need more people to think unconventionally, doubt common beliefs, pursue truth, objective reality, and wisdom. We are encouraged to break down conventional understanding of varying things, gain fresh knowledge, look for an experience of truth, the unfolding of wisdom by those who have gone beyond thinking, in order to make a seamless paradigm shift collaboratively.
