Initiativeofarchitecture

The challenge of Business Architecture is to build a high-performance organization that in times of change and in times of relative status quo remains.

We no longer live in the world that runs in years, but one that runs in minutes. Change is the new normal with increasing pace.

Business Architecture is an important tool that should support the requirements of the business and will need to be adjusted periodically; enabling the management to think about the interrelation between stability and adaptation, standard and creativity, sequence and iteration, enhance business growth and balance cycles appropriately.

Architects are supposed to answer strategic questions and help to define the direction for organizations: Business architecture is strategic in that it gives direction to look for leverage within the dynamic ecosystems, vertical industries, etc. Business architecture views are any aspect of the enterprise concerns to varying stakeholders, so it helps to define the direction of the company, allows business leaders to keep the end in mind, do some forecast of further steps; as well as do gap/impact analysis to define where and how, to bridge the gap between what is required and how it is implemented.

Analogically, business architecture is like a compass tool for the organization to navigate through the right direction, implement a good strategy by enhancing the processes of problem diagnosis, setting up good policy/guideline, doing gap/impact analysis to define where and how, in order to bridge the gap between the current “as is” state and “to be” state of the business.

Business Architect should provide a unique and invaluable viewpoint about organizational design and structure
: Business Architecture contains organizational knowledge context, its input can be used into the organizational structure and scope of responsibilities in an alliance type venture. So inflexible Business Architecture rules, disciplines, methodologies, practices perhaps enlarge the gaps and generate fragmentation, outdated & silos of technical knowledge, lack of resilience in organizational design, etc.

In order to make seamless alignment and enforce cross-functional communication, business architecture as a practical knowledge management tool helps business management reinvent the organizational structure, establish formal structure, also identify the unofficial structures, which enhances collaborations; ensuring an organizational structure in line with your desired direction and organizational ambition, and take organizational restructure along on the journey of leapfrogging change.

Leaders can use architecture as a useful tool to create an abstraction for conveying the business value of change:
It’s important to apply architecture as a communication tool to facilitate digital dialogues, enforce cross-functional collaboration, and consequent customization, Business Architecture is about abstracting; elaborating, facilitates the planning and communicating of business change initiatives. It is a strategic communication tool to ensure all related parties are on the same page, enabling cross functional collaboration and strategic alignment, for advising, monitoring, deliberating, sustaining a balance of diversified viewpoints, pulling in the same direction to solve problems smoothly.

Insightful leaders use business architecture to tell the information-support story with the clarified vision, perceive varying opportunities and possibilities, upward challenges and downwards risks. Any architecture has to accommodate the fact that all organizations operate simultaneously as open and closed systems, work to perceive issues and deal with them smoothly. Business Architecture is a great tool for business management to streamline information and idea flow, enforce cross-disciplinary business communications, foster ecosystem collaboration and build problem-solving competency.

The challenge of Business Architecture is to build a high-performance organization that in times of change and in times of relative status quo remains. Building an evolving digital organization is to advocate the concept of “business as a whole is superior to the sum of pieces.” Business Architecture enables the management to capture a holistic picture of their organization, deal with the variety of complexity, know how to tap various corporate knowledge & resources, become inclusive and recognize merit, orchestrate the interrelationship between people and process, and bridge the multitude of viewpoints to make sound decisions and run high-performance business.
